SADC must live up to its responsibilities – Tsvangirai thumbnail

Harare(ZimEye)Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has urged the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to fulfill its responsibilities to ensure the success of the country’s tottering power-sharing government.

“As the guarantors of Zimbabwe’s transitional inclusive government, SADC must live up to its responsibility by ensuring that all parties to the agreement abide by the letter and spirit of that agreement,” Tsvangirai said.

He added that SADC leaders had the right to know first hand the situation in Zimbabwe.

Tsvangirai’s spokesman James Maridadi issued the following statement:

“Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai met President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) today 22 October 2009 at the President’s Office in Kinshasa. Upon arrival in Kinshasa Prime Minister Tsvangirai had a bilateral with his DRC counterpart Prime Minister Adolphe Muzito.

“Prime Minister Tsvangirai is on a mission to appraise SADC leaders on the state of Zimbabwe’s power sharing agreement and events that led to the decision to suspend cooperation with ZANU PF by disengaging from two state organs of Cabinet and the Council of Ministers thus creating a constitutional crisis that SADC must seized with as a matter of urgency.

“In realizing the urgency and gravity of the Zimbabwean situation, President Kabila undertook to engage other SADC leaders particularly President of Guebuza, Chairperson of Organ Troika in an effort to restore normalcy to Harare.

“On Friday, 23 October 2009, Prime Minister Tsvangirai meets President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos of Angola in Luanda.”(ZimEye, Zimbabwe)
