Abductions Mukoko Morgan Tsvangirai Injuries ZAPU ZANU PF army killingsPublished: October 26, 2009
Harare(ZimEye)Zanu PF militias and war veterans have mounted fresh attacks on Movement for Democratic Change supporters across the country as retribution for prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s partial pullout from a shaky coalition with president Robert Mugabe. The attackers are targeting teachers, local MDC officials and workers of non-governmental organizations, according to sources.
The Voice of America quoted Progressive Teachers Union president Takavafira Zhou saying a large number of teachers had been forced to flee schools in Masvingo and Mashonaland Central provinces.
National Association of Non-Governmental Organizations chief executive Cephas Zinhumwe was held by state security agents in Victoria Falls. Teachers from a school in Chiweshe were seen in Harare at the weekend, where they sought shelter and medical attention.
A journalist who interviewed them said, “The teachers were badly beaten. The whole school was forced to flee. The teachers fled into the mountains before they made it to Harare. They were told by the Zanu PF militias who assaulted them that they were paying for Tsvangirai’s withdrawal from the government.” Mugabe has apparently been shocked by Tsvangirai’s potent threats to withdraw from a coalition government which he has sought to control through heavy-handed tactics and serpent-like chicanery.
Tsvangirai said he was fed up with Mugabe’s refusal to honour promises made in a power-sharing agreement witnessed by regional leaders a year ago. The long-time dictator was stung by the enthusiastic reception Tsvangirai received from regional heads last week when he went on a much-publicized diplomatic offensive. The Zimbabwean premier received a ready audience with Southern African Development Community chair Joseph Kabila, Mozambican president Armando Guebuza, South African president Jacob Zuma and Angolan president Eduardo dos Santos.
“The game is up for Mugabe. Regional leaders are now aware that the future of Zimbabwe is with Tsvangirai and not Mugabe,” said a diplomat.(ZimEye, Zimbabwe)

The game is getting more complex than Zanu PF would like to make us believe. While the regional grouping is slow in showing their irritation with naked dictatorial tendencies signs are already everywhere that Mugabe is no longer the respected statesman he used to be.That SADC leaders including his closest ally Angola afforded MDC time to say its side of the story speaks volumes of Mugabe’s waning diplomatic fortunes.
