Harare (ZimEye) The SADC troika on defence and politics resumed meetings on Thursday with Zimbabwe’s political leadership to resolve the impasse in the inclusive government.
The Troika mission to Harare is being led by Mozambique’s Foreign Affairs Minister Oldemiro Baloi, includes Zambian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Fashion Phiri and Lutho Dhlamini from Swaziland.
South African facilitators to the dialogue that led to the formation of the inclusive government, Frank Chikane and Monjaku Gumbi, are also part of the review team.
Speaking to journalists after meeting deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara SADC executive Secretary Tomaz Salamao said the troika will meet with the other two principals in the inclusive government and SADC diplomats.
Salamao said, “The meeting is to review the implementation of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) and we are also going to take into consideration what is going on. There is no way we can review the GPA and ignore current developments.”
“We are going to meet MDC-T, then later in the day we are going to meet representatives from ZANU PF,” Salamao said.
The SADC meeting comes in response to MDC-T disengagement from government in the last fortnight.
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai announced that his party would not attend Cabinet and was cutting all contact with Mugabe and ZANU PF party until all outstanding issues to the GPA are resolved.
The two parties remain deadlocked over key appointments while the MDC also accuses ZANU PF of engaging in a campaign to persecute its supporters.
ZANU PF has also accused the MDC of reneging on a promise to push for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe’s senior officials.
Meanwhile Zimbabwe’s immigration officials deported the UN special rappourteur on torture to South Africa on Thursday morning after denying him entry into the country on Wednesday evening.
Manfred Nowak had come to Zimbabwe to investigate allegations of torture on MDC-T supporters by ZANU PF militias. (ZimEye Zimbabwe)

SADC thought that if they sink line and hook to Zanu-PF all would just go well and fine but are now for a rude and shock awakening as their demons are now coming home to roast. Having failed to change in thirty years can he now change in three seconds as all options are running out for SADC and Zanu-PF propping up then defending the offender who is now having too much to handle with economy and age being stupid. MDC-T should demand more and a lot of concessions as he has failed to implement the agreed issues for more than nine months when MDC-T is not going back. SADC should face their own music and creations and violations are now difficult to defend and ignore and its now too late to salvage SADC’s reputation which is now battered and in tatters.
