Abductions Mukoko Morgan Tsvangirai Injuries ZAPU ZANU PF army killingsPublished: November 3, 2009
Harare (ZimEye) President Robert Mugabe risks being a rebel if Zimbabwe’s inclusive government collapses.
Deputy Prime Minister Professor Mutambara told journalists soon after meeting SADC chairman Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila in Harare on Monday. He said Mugabe is only president of Zimbabwe because of the GPA and in its absence he seizes to be one. “Mugabe should not get carried away.
(Usakanganwe chezuro ngehope)You are president of Zimbabwe because of the GPA and if the GPA collapses you are a rebel, if you loose recognition from SADC and AU you are on your own,” Mutambara said. Zimbabwe’s inclusive government is on a brink of collapse following the partial withdrawal of the MDC-T from official government duties as a result of the failure to implement the full GPA.
Issues in contention are in the 27 January SADC communiqué which gave birth to constitutional amendment number 19 enacted to create the inclusive government. Mutambara said,
Chicken and egg situation
“We cannot succeed unless we accommodate and reach out to each other. Grievances that are being raised by MDC and ZANU PF are sincere but we have to find a common understanding to solve the issues. We must assume everyone is bona fide. We must not have the chicken and egg situation where we say do this before I do the other,” Mutambara said.
ZANU PF has accused MDC for failure to call for the removal of sanctions, regime change, and running a parallel government while the latter contends the appointment of provincial governors, the attorney general, the central bank governor and media reforms.
Thursday’s Mozambique SADC troika summit is expected to break the GPA impasse.
Mutambara said the troika has to come up with something because the alternative is too ghastly to contemplate.
No national healing
“If the government collapses and we go for fresh elections; I don’t think one can get a UN supervised election if you decide to walk out of this government when there is no new constitution, there is no national healing and media reforms and new constitution, “ Arthur Mutambara added.
“For us in the former opposition it will be a disaster because there will be a June 27 in this country and that June 27 will settle the presidency and parliament in ZANU’s favour. Our loss! You cannot get a UN supervised election today when you fail to get the UN rapporteur on torture into the country. How dare you think you can get a UN supervised election, you will be dreaming,” he said.
“Kabila assured me”- MT
On Monday Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said SADC chairperson Joseph Kabila assured him that the regional block is committed to see Zimbabwe move forward.
“There is common cause that the GPA must be fulfilled. There is no dispute about it. It’s just a question of how do we implement the full GPA benchmarks. The troika has to find a solution and if they can’t, the matter has to be referred to a full summit,” Tsvangirai said.
On Monday Kabila was in Harare for consultation meetings with President Mugabe and the other two principals in the GPA ahead of the SADC troika on Defence and Politics summit (Zimbabwe ZimEye)

If GNU/GPA collapses that will be not the end of Mugabe, Zanu-PF and MDC-M(PF. You can use force to muzzle yourselves back to power and that will be surely going back to Zim$ trillions and billions. Even if Zanu-PF is forced to implement to the full the GPA reputation is in tatters as foreign investors are packing their bags and turning their back as one has to invest at their own peril. Power struggles are all over and democracy was put on hold by GPA but the success of the gvt to reform and recover appear very bleak. Time for opportunism might be coming to an end as the economy continue to be stupid and who will ask for foreign aid. Sanctions will be here for a long time to come even with free independent media and radio stations are not MDC-T properties while the life span of the GPA might just be coming to an end as we wait and see as anything might happen.

Its great that Mutambara appreciates that the collapse of the GPA would be the end of the road for him.

I dont think kuti mutambara is what you think Makwaz and the Nyathi..who likes to make sure he comments before reading. You want him to be on Tsvangirayi side. Izvo kwete, akadzidza and he knows how to read the signs of time. How can you call for a UN observer imi muchikonewa to call for mugabe to stop ill treating your own Legislators? Imi we dont want people who follow a political party religiously. Ndo zvakaita kuti Zanu imere zenze izvozvo.
