Harare(ZimEye)Financial Gazette political editor Njabulo Ncube has resigned after what sources said were strong ‘ideological differences’ with the paper’s owner, the embattled Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, Gideon Gono.

Ncube told ZimEye that he had submitted his resignation letter on Nov. 5 but declined to shed more light on the matter.

However, information at hand is that media mogul Trevor Ncube has offered Njabulo Ncube the post of news editor of his flagship Zimbabwe Independent.

Media colleagues said Njabulo Ncube was disappointed by the Financial Gazette’s editorial line which appears to favour Zanu PF ‘at the expense of the nation’.

“Gono is at the centre of the political dispute between MDC and Zanu PF. He’s an outstanding issue but staffers at Fingaz are under pressure not to present the true facts. Ncube must have found that very disappointing as political editor,” said a colleague.

Sources said Fingaz had made a counter-offer on Thursday but the Zimind offer won the day as it is five times higher than what Ncube is currently getting.

Ncube served the Fingaz in various capacities for 17 years. He has reportedly maintained his independence and was voted vice chair of the Media Institute of Southern Africa, which publishes regular statements attacking tyranny in government.

The Financial Gazette recently took sides with Gono in his war of words with finance minister Tendai Biti, attacking the minister. (ZimEye, Zimbabwe)
