Harare (ZimEye) – President Robert Mugabe has revealed that Zimbabweans might go for elections next year when the two-year period for the shaky government ends.

Mugabe said he would contest in the elections. He said the fresh elections would be held even if a new constitution is not in place.

Mugabe said he would contest in the elections if given the chance by Zanu-PF, a party that gave him a five-year term at the December congress.

“Yes I will contest the elections if Zanu-PF says yes. I will go for the elections,” said Mugabe.

Mugabe told editors of various media  organisations at Zimbabwe House Thursday that it was highly likely that elections will be held in 2011.

The polls will be harmonized just like the shamed 2008 March elections but Mugabe hinted that local government elections would be suspended.

The Global Political Agreement stipulates that fresh elections should be held after the formation of a new constitution. The coalition government has a year in office and the GPA gave it two years lifeline.

The MDC-T has also called for fresh elections, citing irretrievable differences with Zanu-PF in the unity government.(ZimEye, Zimbabwe)

brilliant bob. bring them on. we need a credible gvt in zimbabwe and we need to start rebuilding the country, writing a constitution for our grand children and their grand children, we need to arrest those who killed our brothers for supporting other parties other than zanupf, we need to put a new judiciary, rbz governor, permanent secretairies, ambassadors, a new tomana, we need to hang a few of those who committed gross human rights abuses especially in the security forces and a few of cabinet ministers from the 1980s, we need to recapitalise our campanies, we need to give our land to those who can produce food for everyone, we need to train the green bombers, the police, the cio, and the army to serve the interests of the country not a political party. we need to do lots of things but first we need a credible election. i am going to vote for the first time and that must mean something. viva MDC viva

i’m happy now, we do not need any other candidate, we want Our President R.G Mugabe to contest and we as zimbabweans must vote for him to lead us for another term.we do not want him to leave before he finishes polishing up everything, especially the land issue and black empowerment programme
