Abductions Mukoko Morgan Tsvangirai Injuries ZAPU ZANU PF army killingsPublished: March 12, 2010
(Leicester)Police are looking for vandals who painted racist graffiti on a village hall the day after it hosted a meeting of African political activists.
The letters BNP and KKK were painted on Quorn Village Hall, the Quorn County Hotel and nearby pavements after the hall was used for a meeting of the European wing of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (Zapu).
Zapu leaders hired the hall on Saturday, February 27 for more than 100 exiled delegates to discuss ways to oust Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe.
Police say the graffiti appeared on the following morning.
The offending letters were painted on in brush strokes using a distinctive grey paint.
Quorn parish councillor Terry Stirling said: “I am pleased that it appears to have happened after the Zimbabweans had left so they did not have to see it.
“I spoke to them and welcomed them to the village on the day and I’m pleased to say there was no bother at all. It made the village all the more lively because they had a passionate political debate, the likes of which we have not seen before. It’s a shame someone then comes along and does something as idiotic as this.”
Pc Matt Orton is investigating the incidents, would like to speak to anyone who saw someone in the village with grey paint on their hands or clothes on Sunday February 28, or who has any further information.
