Harare (ZimEye) – Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Gideon Gono looted US$20million from exports accounts of members of the Commercial Farmers Union which according to the CFU’s president Deon Theron, the farmers are now compiling banking details to facilitate a lawsuit against Gono.
Gono raided farmers’ accounts in 2007 and 2008 to fund mainly Zanu-PF projects.
“The process of getting that information from all that had funds looted is about to be complete, but from the few farmers who have come forward, we have established that the amount looted from their accounts is about US $ 20 million,” said Theron.
He said the farmers were forced to resort to legal action to recover funds from the RBZ, which is set to retrench over 3 000 workers.
Apart from the CFU members’ accounts, Gono also looted several companies and organisations.
None of the companies have recovered the stolen money.
Recently, companies have auctioned RBZ property to recover large amounts they are owed by the central bank. (ZimEye, Zimbabwe)
