Stanford Biti blasts Morgan Tsvangirai for “leaked document” thumbnail

London(ZimEye)The brother to Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister Tendai Biti, Stanford has blasted the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe and president of the MDC party’s office for allegedly leaking a report document relating to the findings of a money scandal commission of inquiry to the media before its official release.

“How can a document leak from PM office? The history of the people around the Prime minister must be scrutinized,” he said.

We have in this article attempted to re-publish the alleged leaked document whose contents Harare is yet to comment on and the journalist who leaked the document has attacked among others, ZimEye for publishing full-view news content on the matter which served to inform readers of the matter in whole, and in particular the way in which ZimEye exposed certain persons who triggered a violent scene at an MDC meeting in 2009.

“There is something wrong in the prime minister or the (MDC) president’s office,” said Biti who also appeared to be questioning the credibility of Morgan Tsvangirai close aides, Ian and Theresa Makone, together with Hebson Makuvise, Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Germany.”

Meanwhile some MDC members in the United Kingdom have decided to hold a demonstration against Tsvangirai stating

“Our leaders should rise to our expectations. If they can’t it means we are not going anywhere with them” said the MDC branch leader.

In South-End-On- Sea’s branch a demonstration originally meant to be against South African president Jacob Zuma has now been twisted as the leaders begin to plan for a protest demanding a recall of Hebson Makuvise from government service where he is stationed as ambassador in Germany.

“Zimbabweans should stand up and ‘politicians must not miscalculate the povo,” said Biti adding that:

“Makuvise should not be the ambassador to Zimbabwe. And somehow they should call him back to Zimbabwe. He is a disgrace to the world, “ said Biti, criticising Hebson Makuvise, the man who some MDC supporters accuse of misappropriating most of the money.

Meanwhile a rumour Biti reported that the MDC’s Finance Director, Rumbidzai Nyamayemombe has been fired because of the report were proven to be untrue. ZimEye can reliably inform our readers that Nyamayemombe is still working for MDC in Harare and was seen at Harvest House offices today (Friday)

Below we publish a part copy of the alleged leaked document:

Provincial Finance report

The Provincial Treasurer T.Goneso presented financial statements for the period in question (18 months).

  • The province inherited a balance of       £3 207.57
  • Branches and Districts contributed        £73 892.61
  • Expenses incurred                               £75 188.17
  • Current Bank balance is                       £1 912.01

The Provincial Secretary Sakhile Mthombeni notified that the accounts presented by T Goneso were never presented to the executive committee for adoption. He expressed that as an example of lack of transparency.

Support for expenditure

Audit trail test for £6 650.00

  • A transfer of £6 650.00 by Mary Kasiriwori into T Goneso’ personal account for onward transmission could not be explained whether it had reached the intended beneficiaries.
  • There was no proof from T Goneso to show the transfers from his personal account and confirmation by the intended beneficiaries.

 Harare Trip

  • Members of the executive expressed that they were not happy because the chairman, secretary and organiser proceeded to Harae for a cancelled conference despite that they knew it was cancelled at a cost of £1 893.00
  • Jason Matewu was reported to have requested for a further £1000.00 while he was still in Harare for allowances

 Conflict of interest

A concern was raised during the meeting that the company hosting the MDC-UK & Ireland website belongs to a former member of the provincial executive I Mutanhaurwa.

  • It was however revealed that the company has been charging exorbitant fees (far above the market rates) £2 319.00 paid in 18 months.. (Proof of payment was reflected in the financial statements).

 Undisclosed income and Expenditure

  • No income from fundraising activities is reflected in the Provincial Income statement. Invitations/adverts produced as proof that there were fundraising activities held by the province including money raised at the dinner with The President on 20 June 2009.
  • Cellphones for £7 500.00
  • Members of the executive raised the omission of £7 500.00 donated by (name supplied) for the purchase of cell phones for the election period on the Financial statements presented by T Goneso
  • Sam Takavarasha Jnr narrated the issue of cell phones worth £7 500.00 that were taken to Harare by H Makuvise
  • He stated that there were 260 brand new cell phones with cameras and the intention was to use them during elections and vote counting as the party.
  • Takavarasha Jnr also made it clear that he did not get an acknowledgement of receipt from Zimbabwe as he believed he had done his part did not follow up for accountability purposes (he produced receipts to support the expenditure of H Makuvise’s accommodation, food and for customs duty).
  • On following up on the issue with H Makuvise so as to trace who received and acknowledged the phones?

Questions were raised regards to the remittances to Harare and below is the list of individuals who received money.

Fortune Gwaze/Hon L Moyo        £16 080.40

Fred Makuvise                            £3 040.00 fuel coupons

Fred makuvise                            £7 500.00 worth cell forms

Hebson Makuvise                        £24 215.87 for the President

Hon T Khupe                               £156.00 stranded in Harare

R Nyamayemombe                      £ 658.21 through Western Union

K Kerry                                      £ 966.00 for political violence victims

T shonhe                                    £4 000.00 cash

E Mangoma                                £13 413. 00 cash and fuel

E Mudzuri                                   £753.00 for Gweru rally

Takura Chinyadza                        £300.00

Evidence Chisada                       £283.00

Netsai Matingo                            £79.00

George Tsanga                           £234.00

Ephraim Mashingaidze                 £234.00

J Mashakada revealed that some executive members disputed the idea of sending money to individuals during their meetings. (Minutes provided). He also mentioned that this did not happen with the previous executive even though there was no Party Foreign Currency Account at that time.

In response J Chaora and T Goneso promised to give evidence of requests for the money transferred to individuals.

Aka kamunhu kave kuzotibhowa manje. Instead of waiting for responses to the report and doing worthwhile things for the party, he is de-campaigning the President. This is indiscipline of the highest order. We will do a Mliswa on him very soon. Kane nyaya dzemari dzakanofanirwa kuexplainer kamudhara ikaka.

We dont care who is who. If money & property where stolen then heads should roll.Well done Biti. Expose these crooks. Even Tsvangirayi needs to explain where he put the money. People do not donate money to enrich individuals.

Stanford Biti ibenzi just ignore him. To those who were still doubting the motive of this website it is coming out clear that it is anti-MDC and Morgan Tsvangirai. Inorder to give credibility to its stories its now using the demented S Biti. Icho mukati ndechemudumbu rimwechete na Tendai ichochi kana kuti chaka hurwa, ukanyatso tarira hachina kana kakufanana neanonzi mukoma vacho, pari kudiwa DNA.
Anyway the purported report was distributed days before the investigation by a gentleman by the name of Elliot Pfebve. I am lost on words here because these guys to the outside world appear to be MDC, but God help us they are getting desperate to get rid of MDC UK executive. Hazvinzarwo mumusangano weduwee.

I have just bumpd into this website yesterday. I noticed this guy/woman Tindo who appears so paranoid that its hard to recognise where he is coming from. It would be interesting to know his position in the party

  6. tindo on Sat, 17th Jul 2010 6:05 am

Tindo is the heart and soul of MDC, a true gallant fighter who oversees all structures and levels of MDC. Tindo has taken it upon himself to limit the damage been done by hostile ZANU PF sponsored websites such as this one. Tindo asures MDC members that real change is coming and is coming through Morgan Tsvangirai. The journey is long and difficult but we are getting there. Yes we can!!!

I thnk Tindo you are a real ***** (i.e a learner who yet refuses learning) Did u read this story well? Following this story for 6 months I have seen no other websites has stood for Morgan in this crisis than zimeye after that guy who has a phd in Robotic Journalism and a friend of Jonathan moyo Admore Tshuma launchd his attack on MDC. A story came out here exposing Biti as the attacker of my uncle Peter Matsa last year. I did not see such investigative journalism even with MT’s own writers in harare. In any case waverenga here this story zvakanaka?

  8. tindo on Sat, 17th Jul 2010 10:12 am

This story is straight forward Makwembere, asi vachembera kani?. The story denigrates Tsvangirai’s office. S Biti was given acres of space to talk sh*t about Tsvangirai and his aides. Trying to incite other members to demostrate against Tsvangirai, but let me warn those who might contemplate doing so, especially with UK Refugee status and those still seeking asylum that you will be shooting yourself in the foot you know what I mean. Of all the report that comes into Tsvangirai’s office how many have been leaked, and can you imagine I makone giving Admore Tshuma and zimeye.org reports, Come on Makwembere use your brain.

  9. Magora on Sat, 17th Jul 2010 12:20 pm

I first saw this report published by Admore Tshuma’s zimdiaspora and he sure does boasts to be the one who leaked it. It looks like he is now exposing Tswangirai although he was once part of mdc leadership. He attacks the zimeye website calling them half baked journalists because they stood to defend Tswangirai last year – no offense editor but I think your support for the man from Buhera Tswangirai has reduced your paper’s value.

of course Tshuma is still ZANU PF and it is clear, but had he been part of Mavambo, he could have preserved a little bit of sense. Anyway I think only Makoni can manhandle Mugabe like he already demonstrated in June 2008. He unites the two opposite forces.

The GNU is only a face covering a lot of corruption. But why did Mbeki exclude Makoni from the gnu? they are corrupt, and Mbeki already has businesses in Harare protected by zanu pf. Can MDC demostrate to be corruption free?

Speak sense and we will listen to you. Its good to support your parties but when you come to these forums, please utilise your brains to think. schupeti!

Svosve, salute you. There some pple who thinks they are real into politics bt they lack wisdow.Hw can pple can on protecting wrong leaders,it is gud to acknowledge what is right and point out those things that need attention from our leaders. Its real a shame for some body to support what mdc is doing its speacial at present moment, you think of those who died for the struggle with all the trust of mdc leaders at heart, to deliver democracy to zimbabwe.i real fil sorie for them and thier families. who is Mr makoni anywere? did He bring unit to the part or division. what is that, that we can remember him in the history of mdc part except, eliminating others and causing the first not the last division in mdc part. His advace they look like there is a master who is benefiting out of it.

This boy / girl called Tinto is a typical example of an MDC T trained Boarder Gezi. He sees no evil, talks no evil and whenever MDC is called for checks and balances, those people are labelled as Zanoids and therefore enermies of the democratic movement. Shame on you Tindo and crew, by the way what do you understand by democracy? Aren’t these some of the reasons why MDC was launched to fight Zanu, corruption? Ndinobva ndatanga kubhiga mudhara Mugabe pakadai. Tindo mbava ngadzifumurwe chokwadi chibude pachena

From what we know, Stanford Biti is still under suspension, as far as we know his suspension has not been lifted as yet, as such i cannot not see an good reason why he should be making a lot of noise about this report, wether this report has been prepared and published earlier than you expected it is none of your business, you remain under suspension till lifted.
On the report that you are complaining about, what is it that you think its not correct, what is it you think needed to be corrected before the publication, in other words is there any thing wrong on the report.
All what we needed was transparency, a detailed look at how the funds which were donated to the party by party members, party well wishers and party sympathisers were utilised.
From the look of things there has been complacence here,

Once again Zimbabweans are making the same mistakes. You make a demi-god out of Tsvangirai just like you did with Mugabe. You allow him to go unchecked and give him a sense of impunity. You denigrate those who dare show his fallabilies. This is exactly how you breed dictators. If there are questions marks over certain issues, then Morgan should be questioned.
