Abductions Mukoko Morgan Tsvangirai Injuries ZAPU ZANU PF army killingsPublished: July 30, 2010
Harare(ZimEye)- The state controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) stands to lose several thousands of dollars after several companies threatened to withdraw their advertisements as they do not want to be associated with the controversial Zanu PF propaganda jingles which are currently being overplayed on radio and television despite widespread opposition.
The jingles which have threatened to split the already fragile Government are being played on both radio and television at an
interval of every 30 minutes daily.
Sources at ZBC’s marketing department said a number of companies have approached the corporation threatening to withdraw their adverts if the state broadcaster continue to associate their adverts with the ZANU-PF jingles.
“Advertisers are saying that ZBC is losing credibility because of the jingles. They claim that by playing the jingles close to their
advertisements, the corporation would be associating their products with the unpopular songs,” said an executive in the marketing
department.
The source said since the jingles were launched, there has been a remarkable decrease in the number of companies placing their
advertisements on radio and television.
“The top managers are already threatening to fire marketing executives accusing them of being incompetent, yet it is the company which is scaring away advertisers,” said the source.
Marketing Manager Moses Banda is also on the firing line and his job is currently being advertised on radio and television.
ZBC relies on revenue from adverts and licenses, but most viewers and listeners are resisting paying the licence fees protesting against poor programming and too much propaganda on radio and television.
The minister of media, information and publicity, Webster Shamu who is also the Zanu PF Political Commissar, a few weeks ago forced ZBC to play the propaganda jingles which he helped composed with the previously unknown Mbare Chimurenga choir.
The jingles emphasizes that President Robert Mugabe and his two Deputies, Joyce Mujuru and John Nkomo are the only ones in power in the country despite the presence of a government of national unity.
