Harare(ZimEye)-ZBC News General Manager Tarzan Mandizvidza has threatened to reshuffle the entire TV newsroom after a news crew comprising reporter, camera-person and a driver solicited a US$200 bribe.
Sources in the ZBC news reporters pool said last week a Business reporter together with his camera person and their driver solicited for a US$200 bribe from a Pakistan national businessman.
The foreign businessman who operates a welding company in Harare was under investigation for using welders without protective clothing and the crew had gone to unearth labour ill practice when they were given the US$200 to cover up the scam.
“What they did not know is that the Pakistan businessman has some close links with ZANU-Pf and has immune protection. So when they got there they were offered US$200 as bribe and when they were given the cash he immediately phoned Tarzan Mandizvidza (General Manager News) telling him that his boys had solicited for a bribe. When the crew arrived back at Pockets hill they were told by News editor Albert Chekai that they should surrender the bribe to Tarzan, “said the source.
The three are said to had gone into Tarzan Mandizvidza office and handed over the bribe to him.
Mandizvidza is said to have read a riot act to all the reporters announcing that a reshuffle was imminent.
Last month ZBC Chief Executive came out on TV saying that there were politicians who were bribing his reporters for positive news coverage.
The reporters hit back saying they were clashing with senior managers in some government ministers’ offices while asking for kick backs.(ZimEye, Zimbabwe)Tweet
