The reason is simple: Zimbabwe figured out that circumcision is hoax pushed by sick individuals in the US and US medical quacks. Condoms work and keep you whole.

Many professionals have criticized the studies claiming that circumcision reduces HIV transmission. They have various flaws. The absolute rate of HIV transmission reduction is only 1.3%, not the claimed 60%. Authorities that cite the studies have other agendas including political and financial. Research shows that circumcision causes physical, sexual, and psychological harm. This harm is ignored by circumcision advocates. Other methods to prevent HIV transmission (e.g., condoms and sterilizing medical instruments) are much more effective, much cheaper, and much less invasive. Zimbabwean men are *more* likely to have HIV if they’ve been circumcised:

12.5% of intact Zimbabwean men have HIV
14.6% of circumcised Malawian men have HIV

(figures from measuredhs dot com)

Other countries where circumcised men are *more* likely to be HIV+ include Cameroon, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, and Swaziland. That’s at least seven African countries where men are more likely to be HIV+ if they’ve been circumcised, and yet they’re promoting circumcision to prevent HIV. What will it take to stop this madness?

All this assumes that the CDC knows better than Zimbabwe men what is best for them. Circumcised Americans just don’t get it that a foreskin is a good thing to have, and makes sex better. Cutting it off is just too high a price for an intact man to pay for a very doubtful, relatively slight reduction in the risk of contracting HIV from a woman.

Not only are more circumcised Zimbabwean men infected with HIV than circumcised, but it was the same in 2005, before the circumcision campaign began.

So what will the CDC do next? Get them before they can resist; circumcise babies. This manipulative, colonialist mindset really needs to be shown up for what it is. Don’t buy it, Zimbabwe. Your scarce health resources should not be wasted on this hairbrained scheme while babies are dying before they ever have a chance to contract HIV.

Ronald’s contribution above makes lots of sense. This 60% thing is really a marketing gimmick. Let’s talk about the absolute reduction in HIV infection, instead. Some simple linear statistics:
- The probability of getting infected is never 100% in the first place. In Zimbabwe, an arbitrary chance of infection is 15% (i.e. prevalence rate)
- If male circumcision reduces the chance of infection by 60%, then it reduces it only on 15% risk at population level
-Therefore the absolute reduction in infection probability is 60% of 15% (= 9%). More robust statistical modelling is likely to bring this rate further down to levels given by Ronald above
-If circumcision is really helpful, let’s not exaggerate its effects.
-The simple ABCs (Abstinence, Faithful monogamy, reduction in sexual partners and CONDOMIZATION of sex, etc) will save this generation, not all these reckless interventions justified by fund-launderers. Condoms are the ultimate line of defense. Wrap up sex please:
1) Wrap it with the 4 walls of the bedroom;
2) Wrap it with the sheets
3) Wrap it with darkness, is possible
4) Wrap it in rubber, ultimately.

Unfortunately it is / has been circumcision that has MADE for no end of anti-semitic sentiments. Freud found that it was the chief reason for unconscious anti-Semitism. And the myths surrounding it are at the core of the “blood libel.” Thus, It’s time to eliminate the Brit Milah because if that is the chief reason for being anti-Semitic
or anti-Abrahamic [Islam too practices the rite]then why hang
on to this left-over of human sacrifice? that traumatizes
the child, cutting off 5,000 nerves, and only serves the Ultra
Orthodox to maintain their power? After all, reform Judaism
sought to eliminate the rite in the 19th century, and
Jewish identity depends on being born by a Jewish mother,

Scaling up male circumcision will NOT reduce new HIV infections!

Circumcision (sexual-reduction surgery) does NOT reduce the female-to-male transmission of HIV by 60% as claimed. This is a relative figure only. The actual (absolute) risk reduction was only 1.3% which is NOT clinically significant.

Up to 50% of HIV infections are through NON-SEXUAL sources such as medical treatment and cosmetic skin piercing procedures.

Alarmingly, in a parallel Ugandan study by Wawer et al. (2009), there was a 61% relative INCREASE in male-to-female transmission of HIV. Several women in this highly unethical trial became infected with HIV after having sex with their newly circumcised partners.

Circumcision can only worsen the HIV epidemic because:

1) Some men may become HIV infected from the circumcision procedure itself when surgical instruments are inadequately sterilized.

2) At least 25% of men engage in sexual intercourse before their circumcision wounds have healed (half as early as 3 weeks).
