BULAWAYO(ZimEye)-Human rights activists Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) has swept through the streets of Bulawayo with demonstrations against the president Robert Mugabe regime, calling the international community to intervene.
Â
Over 300 WOZA members took to the streets peacefully carrying placards imprinted messages advocating for the removal of the Mugabe-led regime. The fearless protesters held the demonstration under the theme: Human Rights of Women – Human Rights for All: Universal Declaration for Human Rights 60 years after. Zimbabwe stand up for the truth and it will set you free of this regime.
Â
WOZA director Jenny Williams said they called for the immediate intervention of the international community to address the humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe.
Â
“ we call on the international community and in particular, SADC and the African Union, to act in defence of the ordinary citizens of Zimbabweans. Zimbabwe is now a “complex emergencyâ€, a failed state, without functioning government and with the destruction of the economy, the infrastructure and social capital,†she noted.
Â
The protestors also highlighted their disgruntlement over the abduction of human rights activist and former ZBC news anchor Jestina Mukoko.
Â
Mukoko is the director of Zimbabwe Peace Project. The WOZA marchers also passed through the State-controlled Chronicle offices in the city centre where they dropped fliers.
Â
The group then dispersed before heavily armed police arrived. WOZA has become a bitter enemy to the Zanu-PF, since the group has been protesting against the regime. In May about 14 members were arrested and were denied bail and imprisoned for 6 weeks.
Â
No arrests had been reported by the time of going to print [ZimEye, Zimbabwe]

Support to all Zims that are oppressed by an outrageous regime! It is unbelievable what is happening in Zimbabwe. The wordl must be crying because of these egocentric, agressive “people”. It is impossible to believe this is happening today. Who do they think they are? Nothing more than dust, which they soon will be…
