A storm is brewing between JOMIC officials and government following a directive from Dydmus Mutasa ordering all JOMIC officials to return the 4×4 vehicles given to them by government for purposes of executing their duties during the life of the Government of National Unity.
JOMIC liason officers from the three political parties in Manicaland have vowed to keep on to their vehicles despite calls by the chief secretary of the President and cabinet for the immediate withdrawals of the vehicles by the 20th of September.
Last week a press statement was issued calling for the withdrawal of the vehicles. The vehicles are to be surrendered to the nearest CMED Deport. Jomic has 7 vehicles in each province and each party has two.
In his memo to JOMIC vehicle users, the chief secretary to the President and cabinet said the role of JOMIC ended with the demise of GNU. However, a survey in Manicaland has indicated that all individuals using the vehicles are still holding on to them arguing that they should be given the cars as exit packages. Those interviewed said the government was being very unfair and insensitive to them by withdrawing the vehicles when they allowed government ministers to go with their vehicles.

They are arguing that most senior civil servants and head of government departments normally are given the option of buying the vehicle on book value at the end of the contract. All the ministers in the just ended inclusive goverment were given the option of buying their vehicles at book value.

A visit to the CMED Provincial headquarters this afternoon has shown no sign of any vehicle that has been surrendered.
One of JOMIC Provincial cordinators who declined to be named told ZimEye that the National cordinator Patience Chiradza has told through a MEMO all JOMIC officers to hold on to their vehicles until they get a communication from the National Co_Chairpersons: Elton Mangoma, MDC T Nicholas Goche Zanu pf and Priscillah Musihairambwi MDC N.
