Bennett Furious As MDC-T Calls For Tsvangirai’s Resignation Intensify

(ANALYSIS)He once bludgeoned Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa in parliament right before onlookers, and his party know him to be a frank no nonsense person – MDC-T Treasurer General Roy Bennett has this week fearlessly turned his ‘body’ on his boss Morgan Tsvangirai saying he must immediately resign and handover to others.
Bennett told reporters Tsvangirai has had his time, fought well, and stood on, but must now resign to save the party from total collapse.
His comments come as top Tsvangirai confidante Nelson Chamisa revealed that party heavyweights actually want Tsvangirai to continue ruling for another 20 continuous years. He told ZimEye soon after our reporters queried with Chamisa on the MDC-T’s announced plans to retain Tsvangirai until he is an octogenarian (80 years old and above), “that question you raised with Chamisa is crucial and important because I was there when they changed the constitution,” he said of the time when MDC-T bosses secretly signed a deal to lengthen Tsvangirai’s presidency without informing the rest of the party.
In another interview this week with a South African publication BDLive, Bennett further burst out dismissing Tsvangirai’s leadership relevance after the July 2013 elections.
“Mr Tsvangirai has served two terms and is nearly completing a third,” Mr Bennett said. “Deep introspection needs to be undertaken by our national collective leadership, not for purposes of looking for scapegoats, but for our party to reinvigorate its leadership with a leadership which reflects the will of our people,” said Bennett.
He even suggested that the only reason why Tsvangirai is hanging on is because of a small ruling elite in the central committee whose positions will be affected by a leadership change. “Regrettably some within our leadership, as in the case with many political parties, do not wish the grassroots democratic will of the people to prevail,” he said.
Bennett’s calls were this week part of a hot topic on leadership succession which trended with thousands flooding on social websites but which was dominated with talk on Tsvangirai’s future as leader of the MDC-T party as many began saying the former trade unionist should pass the baton. Meanwhile some top MDC-T cadres who spoke on condition of anonymity voiced that an attempt by Tsvangirai and close allies to stay on will only give more power for ZANU PF to continue ruling as this automatically demotivates the democracy spirit which the party claims to subscribe to.

  1. those who feel tsvangirai must leave please kidly form your own part and contest in 2018 why make noise job sikala did so ndimi murikunonoka

  2. Party constitutions need not set reactionary or pseudo-democracy limits but should concentrate on strengthening their democratic systems, structures and culture so that the choice to “vote out” or “retain” a leader does not depend on a reactionary clause in the constitution but a free, fair and credible vote at congress. If and when we have a truly democratic rather than pseudo-democratic party constitution and culture then, this debate will cease to exist. Good political leadership is not selfish, self-interested and self-serving but interested in the people’s well being and the country’s posterity!

  3. So Mashayamombe you would rather Bennett lead the party, dream on Mr. As soon as you put a whiteman’s face in front the party is history. True povo will never allow that. Let him form his own party. Ref: Welshman, Job Sikhala. We are in a struggle and there is no time-frame in a struggle until a battle is won. Politics dzenyu dzemubhuku hadzishande. We need activists, militant people, dedicated to removing Bob and his party, then we can talk of terms, contracts and wishy washy stuff. Cannot you not see that he is seeking relevance. I have resigned and people’s reaction- a big Ziiii. Oh! oh! No i haven’t actually resigned..nxaaa Just go man! And Now its Tsvangirai must go..Rubbish! What next? “MDC is my personal property lets dissolve it.” Hameno henyu vanoteera varungu.

  4. By example Tsvangirai should lead.Like the pigs in Animal Farm,he ammended the rule so as to secure his warm seat.Surely, true democracy should seen through Tsvangirai’s willing stepdown as a dismal failure.

  5. It doesnt matter wether you say Tsvangirai is the face of that group MDCT ,,the truth of the bottom line is he has acc ooo rding to their party constitution over stayed after having ammendend it in 2006 …He is now a lability and very soon he be history like Muzorewa…Those who are calling for him to stay are just like Zanupf support who say NOONE CANREPLACE MUGABE,what rubbish is that,,,,,,

  6. I definitely agree with Bennet we dont want another Zanu pf , Tsvangirai you have done your best it is time to pass the baton we want true democracy.

  7. Watever the way we can look at this,Tswangirai has overstayed his welcome.its time for change within Mdc presidency. He is no mach for the big guy

  8. Why must we have Big man politics in Africa? Why can MT not step aside, pass the baton onto someone else and work doubly hard to get him elected at the next congress and win the 2018 elections. We lost the elections in 2013 and those current leaders were in charge and they failed. MT’s image is now tarnished and he will be branded a loser by the electorate forever. It has been proved that his whole team is unelectable. Find some new blood, get all the MDC executive to endorse him/her and work towards 2018. ZANU-pf will always be able to beat Tsvangirayi and his fast asleep crew.

  9. Bennett should know better what ZANU is like, He should come back and takeover then. Zimbabweans ZANU PF is a dirty party which has been in power for the past 33yrs ,we have young educated members but I don’t like to see their life being wasted in prisons, remember learnmore Jongwe. Tsvangirai has gone throw that and they can’t throw anything to him .He should lead until the job is done

  10. Am sure Bennet is our standing committee member who is on number 7 frm President Tsvangirai..What then worries my logic is the procedure he used to air his views, surely do u rush to media abt an internal issue unless if u ar nw advancing the coz of the enemy just lyk what u have seen yo Bla miki’s comments..Thats yo freedom to express yoself bt nt in the public media my combatriot…Our constitution my dear Bennet is there why u didnt cite chapters & sections of where u ar basing yo arguments…Am sure cde ldr Bennet u nid 2 be guided when it comes to these issues coz u ran away hence u ar talking frm a hearsay point of view nt reflecting the grassroots as u suggest…Why ar we nt wth u ldr isnt it that u hv ran away frm the satanic rule of Mugabe bt SAVE we were wth him & 4 yo own info he once faced treason charge bt he remained steadfast.Congress 2016 is there whoever is interested let him throw his name in the ring & people will therefore make a decision thru their secret vote…I THANK U

  11. bennet why dont you form you own party, anywhere true mdc supporters see tsangirai as the real mdc,you cant seperate the two,if you want try it and mdc will be dead before you know it.

  12. MDC was never prepared for a leadership change their never percieve the other outcome of the last election the results of the last election narrates ts a risk for MDC to opt for leadership renewal politics in africa its all about winning the hearts of people from the grass root level l dont forsee MDC having enough time to mobilise people and win support to win zanu pf in the next five years, if their opt for leadership change what mdc must do 1. Unity 2. Regruop. 3. Remain vocal & relevant in media 4. Restructure their party in wards. 5. Have a clear policy. 6. Brand their party.

  13. Tsvangirai akasarudzwa ne congress ye MDC muna 2011 kuti ndiye achatungamira zvakare bato iri kusvika muna 2016 apo pachaitwa zve imwe congress. Kana paine vanoda kukwikwidza kutungamirawo Bennet included, iyi ndiyo nguva yekukandawo nguwani mudariro. 14. The Zimeye will banned if it doesn’t write negative about MDC T. The profs is now the minister of info and he has been wirting here and identified himself as Baba jukwa. He is away about what is going on here

  15. Tsvangarai brand is still strong and we all trust it can stand against zunupf I can only second that one who said going to que to vote b4 we do wat Bennet did to Chinamasa that will never help. we should fight all varikuramba kupa vamwe mukana vachiomerera pachigaro kana iri hondo this time ngaitsve ngatimbo vasayai Save at list we fight kuti aite one term in office topaChamisa kana Strive Masiiwa. politics dzemuzimbabwe hadzisi kuda kurwisina pachedu Iko kuine nhunzvatunzva dzisangadi kudya nevamwe dzino shandisa chisimba Tsva

  16. When the Mdc was formed in 1999 the first President the Late Mr Gibson Sibanda was replaced at the 2000 Congress by Tsvangirai and that was democracy ..Then they was a constitution which all Mdc members agreed that after every 2 terms they must be leadership change..Tsvangirai when he realised that his time was up in 2006 he amended the party constitution to suit himself ,that’s where he started to show that he is a dictator who can be even more brutal than Mugabe himself….So now it’s the time to call for an emergency extra ordinary Congress to chose another leader to replace him…It’s time time he must step aside with his kitchen cabinet ..Tsvangirai is now an embarassment for everyone in Zimbabwe except for his relatives the Hebson Makuvise s and Jaison Matewu s…

  17. Roy Bennet your words were directed from the Lord though you were not with the awareness. Never feel guilt.
But physically they will fight you though spiritually you were a messanger despite the the type of media you used. You were in my dreams on Monday morning.
    I am not surprised.

  18. Since when has a white man said anything sensible to ZPF people. You know shumba yenyu ndi Save. The struggle continues with Morgan

  19. 20. *DELETED*** he must also go to show the bigger idiot mugabe how to get out. That’s the only good example he can show the world that fool. Zi kuduzvi remunhu basa ku tsavaga Mahure. Mugabe is a dog but his better than tsvangirai , tsvangirai lost ma elections and we know it ndinosenza ku Zec

  23. let Bennet lead by example himself and resign from his on fund raising role. if he wants to continue, let Morgan continue also

  24. guys the problem we have right now is the ruling govt. why kupedza samba na tsvangs? he has not caused any problems. lets deal with the issue at hand now!!!!!!!!!

  25. Zimbabweans lets stand for the truth not to manipulate the constitution because we love someone to the extend that we think he can not be replaced. If the constitution is saying 10 years then he must go.He played his part very well but his time is over.He can not manipulate the constitution so as to be in the History books as the one who removed ZANUPF from power. For him to continue as a party leader I fear it because I know thats how most African dictators started

  26. Now the focus is on Tsvangirai and not Mugabe. Tsvangirai is not the President of Zimbabwe so why bother. These are just sign of confusion, exactly what ZANU (PF) was looking for. Now instead of challenging ZANU to deliver, we focusing on Tsvangirai to resign. Actually we have forgotten that Mugabe committed an unforgivable sin, i.e election fraud. Have we already forgiven him or have we now accepted that it is normal for ZANU to rig elections.

  27. Bla Miki is your turn….to control the MDC-T so that no more stealing of elections by ZANU-PF…Tsvangirai now is a clear deadwood…ZANU-PF for life..pasi ne-MDC-T,pasi naba-Tavandirai…Zimbabwe will never be a colony again….pasi nema Puppets wama British……

  28. Comrade Naked they have done it again, nxa Greyhole’s sister and wife. Honourable Mthwakazi wena wesilo go http://www.bulawayo24.com.
See pic videos for proof that its Greyhole’s people. These MDC-T people. This is why Makwembere had to leave his high speed boats to talk to his comrades in witchcraft.

  29. if people allow one to rule more than three terms then, its no longer democracy. If people keep on amending their constitution without public participation, democracy is flawed. After all ,this Bennet guy will never be MDC president

  30. i dont see why tsvangirai must go now,,did nbody said mandela must go before SA attained its independence. u dont say a leader must go coz that z wat e constitution says wen u a in e struggle. actually e constitution was wrongly structured there must be a close whch says “2 terms with effect 4rm e time e leader becomes e president of e nation” not only e part. neva listen 2 Roy hz a disgruntled lot but he shld go & confront mugabe and nt save…hz fighting 4 relevance.

  31. Let’s let Save fight the war he started to its logical conclusion then we will talk about leadership change. For the time being let us remain focussed at unseating ZANU

  32. President is elected at congress, full stop! Bennett will have his chance to air his views then, not through the media. Nxaa!
    Unyile Nakednja!

  33. Openly bludgeoned Chinamasa to pieces. ??? Your staff reporter really needs to report facts and save the exaggeration and fiction for his novel writing. Disappointed

  34. Seems like a replica of the Animal Farm. Unfortunately, MDC T do not know much about the Animal Farm for them to have an appreciation of what l’m talking about, they don’t read novels, they read Baba Junky’s fiction. Even though he is partly right, Bvennet himself should step down and then openly tell his gay mates to do the same. Alternatively, it is not too late for the idiots to disband this Euro sponsored project and rejoin the people’s party.

  35. Tsvangirai must practice what he preaches, pass on the baton coz he has nothing new to offer in terms of defeating zanu…besides if he passes on the baton it makes him a true champion of democracy, anyway does he have proper shrewd advisers?Putin passed on the baton and came back….

  36. the entire top mdct leadership must go together wth tsvangirai.what is t that they achieved in t gvt of nation unity???mdc statrted talking of electoral reforms and electoral reforms when they started realisng their tyme in gnu was comng to an end.

  37. As long the Team MDC T does not recruit people like Masiyiwa who can have an immediate National appeal and groome him ,exposing him to the grass root supporters ,there will always be a crisis in opposition politics. The Moses was there we now need a Joshua.

  38. in a way Bennet is right how does Morgan think he will topple Zanupf without shedding blood. How can he quote the bible like a priest, this is politics its time for war.
