Conspiracy, luck, and defeat of Zimbabwe to Guinea

(ANALYSIS)Zimbabwe’s defeat at the hands of Guinea at the National sports stadium in Harare, has been described as a result of luck by the winning team’s coach, although at a time the state controlled media claimed it was rather a result of another conspiracy by the Warriors – only reminiscent of the recent disgraceful match fixing incidences.
“We were lucky to beat Zimbabwe”, revealed Guinea’s coach, Michel Dussuyer(pictured) as he stated that his team was only fortunate to beat Zimbabwe in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
The state owned Herald however began the story with a completely different version as they claimed that the Warriors somewhat committed a conspiracy to self destruct. The article read in part:

The Warriors again conspired to hurt their fans, with a militant section of the supporters raining missiles onto the pitch in frustration, after the senior national team began their 2014 World Cup campaign in the worst manner possible at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
The painful defeat to Guinea was too much to bear for some of the fans who threw an assortment of missiles onto the pitch, briefly holding the Warriors hostage, after a nightmarish afternoon for the hosts at the giant stadium.
As it dawned on the supporters, in the last quarter of the match that Zimbabwe were heading for defeat, they broke into song and demanded the reinstatement of the suspended Norman Mapeza who remains incredibly popular with the fan…”
Even the ZIFA Vice President Ndumiso Gumede, was nearly physically attacked by unruly fans while Zifa board member for development, Benedict Moyo had to obtain body guard escorts so to leave the stadium by security personnel as fans went left right and centre to attack him. The two were accused of having been instrumental in the appointment of Gumbo, with the fans in favour of the suspended Norman Mapeza. With the result seemingly looking in favour of Guinea, the fans started chanting derogatory remarks against Gumbo and singing in favour of Mapeza.
Zimbabwe’s fate was sealed by a 25th minute goal from Ibrahim Traore which left the Warriors grappling for breath.

CONSPIRACY or just mere talk?
But did the Zimbabwean warriors really commit conspiracy?
The admission by the Guinea coach that it happened by luck is first hand display that our boys played well beyond their normal abilities.
But at the same time we had our own State Media vuvuzela carelessly reporting to the public using the word – ‘conspiracy’. This reference was used in the face of hanging memories of the recent shameful match fixing reports which have destroyed the nation’s image internationally. In the same vein, was it fair for the team’s own fans to be throwing stones and missiles merely in disappointment over a weekend soccer match? Indeed our boys must be applauded for the tenacity and courageous fight and maybe we must all be ashamed of ourselves?
Although Zimbabwe has sunk into third position ahead of bottom placed Mozambique on goal difference, maybe we must all admit, that we have all collectively sunk to these depths!

  1. Dube, Gumede, Benedick Moyo, Rubbush Gumbo and all the rest Mtwakazians must pack their bags and go back KwaMadlodlo and drink Muqxomboti. Leave football to pipo with brains.

  2. It comes as a surprise to me that there are still people out there who are so foolish to think that the mediocre, thin and weak zim players can achieve anything!! Especially this chimoto (whatever that means) What can Rahman produce with that chuff of players? What did your mapeza achieve? Zim wasnt even in the nations cup!! You think that money can make your bull sh.it players better? Dream on, Zimbabwe is in its RIGHTFUL place in football: NOWHERE!!!!! Dynamos 1-7 Esperance! What do you say about that? Wake up and smell the diesel from you rocks, your country is rubbish! No economy, no leaders, NO FOOTBALL!!!! Zim would only top a league of football betting syndicates, no wonder your rushwaya is still walking free coz thats what you are good at, theft and corruption!!! Inkethabetshabe ilinceda ngani silima???

  3. We dont want his castle .he shld build it in Mtakaziland wth bricks. He was given an open cheque of Plutinum minerals money to spend wht did he do ?He lost the ttl to a team which struggling to pay its players .Nw he was givn Chiadzwa diamond money for the national team and wt a shame we sw on Sunday. We want a title less Mapeza hatidi zvemadisinyongoro atirikuitirwa aya

  4. Who is Mapeza? What titles has he won as a coach? Dynamos 1-7 Esperance, Zimbabwe 0-1 Guinea. Rushwaya walks free! Sums up your poor country’s football. Rahman is trying to build a castle without bricks!!

  5. Thank u malaitsha Naked for your correction hwever the point remains tell your brothers they ar nw a liability in Zimbabwe pliz .Imdidi ye ntshonalanga pliz kayibuyele ngibo.

  6. We lost a very good coach in the form of Cde Charles Mhlauri through a stupid rivalry and jealous by the entire Dynamos family. We failed to offer support to the best coach on the land and now we have a boozers’ club in the place of our beloved warriors. Where is Coltart, what role is being played by the sports commission? Just bring back the best coach to partner with his former captain and understudy Peter, the two will move us to greater heights.

  7. They went down fighting! Kikikikiki! If only there was a place for the team that consistently went down fighting during the qualifiers, it would be the worst, worrying, unwary, weary, wicked, worsening, weak, wilting, whorish, what-not-else Warriors of Zimbabwe. The Asiagate battalion is laughing all the way. We did everything wrong – wrong coach, wrong players, wrong venue… What else did you expect?

  8. Here Bla Miki don’t you see that indirectly it was Zanu’s Rushwaya who messed up everything thru the Asia-gate which is barring players like Mwanjali and Mushekwi among others to shine?Zimbabwe i can say it again that all problems and failures that Zimbabwe is facing are caused by chimusangano ichocho. The funny part of this scandal is that Rushwaya’s case is being blocked because she has been opening her legs for some Zanu gurus so Zimbabwe will keep on singing the blues until Zanu is unseated

  9. Sure Bla Miki is a fool who still lives in the past like his president Mugabe, who has failed to extricate himself from the euphoria of 1980, but has said a good point. Mr Editor, Mr Editor, oh can’t you see the consipiracy is figurative? It only meant that the players did not do anything to please their fans. They were not serious with their game, not that Sharuko and Mboma sat at some offices along Lanark road in Belgravia to sabotage a coach as they are wont to do.

  10. So what did this Mapeza do when he managed Zimbabwe. What club has Mapeza won a champioship with. Can someone give me Mapeza’s achivements that make him a quality and Special case coach than Gumbo other that Mapeza is from Harare.

  11. Yes their was conspiracy .Loosing at home cannot be just tolarated as just being un luck .We dont need luck to win then what is their work? That is a rubbish excs

  12. There are too many Mtwakatians in that ZIFA house Gumede,Moyo and his disciples from the same cased villages. They shld go wth their son Gumbo.Mapeza back pliz Aya mandex pliz ngavaende kuno manager Bosso not our national team .we ar tired of their nonsense

  13. the entire zifa board board should be fired, because their wrong decisions have failed the nation for too long, they brougt zimbabwe soccer into disarray, new board , new coach no need to rely on failures, haa a aaa!

  14. Mr /Mrs Staff Reporter, your lack of understanding the English language never cease to amaze me. The Herald reporter was merely trying to illustrate the amount of pain that was caused to the nation by the entire team, playing at home. Look, the reporter didn’t want to accuse the coach alone here who evidently lacks vision and a tactical approach to the game. Fans are hurt most and l believe they where justified in all their actions. Your reporters Mr Editor must learn to produce their own account of events and not criticise other writers without offering an alternative.

  15. The blame lies squarely with the coach. Team selection was poor, Esron Nyandoro and Tinashe Nengomasha play same positions at club level which is that of a defensive middle fielder and it was wrong to field both players,as this meant that the team played without an attacking middle fielder and it was very evident as the two twin strikers struggled to get clean passes, besides Nyandoro no longer commands a regular place at Sundowns. The free kick which resulted in the only goal of the match was a result of Nyandro’s blander and one would have thought that the new coaches would keep the “kidsnet” of Normal Mapeza together because the are promising youngsters and still hungry for success.Tapiwa Kapini looked jittery in goal.As for Benedict Moyo i have no sympathy with him whatsoever,he is a thick Kalanga tribalist and is one of the guys who are always undermining chairman Cuthbert Dube and was very instrumental in having Norman Mapeza suspespended and if we lose in Mocambique on Sunday then we are out of the race.

  16. Loosing is all about lack of focus and preparation. There is no point of making excuses for defeat by a nation the size of one district.
