MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s cousin Hebson Makuvise who has been serving as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Germany since 2009, is still in that country despite his tenure ending today.
This development comes as Zimbabwe government media analysts rubbished the merits of both him and Jacqueline Zwambila being threatened with political persecution back home.

Makuvise is supposed to have returned to Harare by Tuesday 31st December.
But despite his term expiring, the ambassador was spotted still walking the streets of Berlin on Monday morning.
When asked by our reporter on the reported asylum matter, he was evasive while avoiding further questions.
“I am actually at work today – Nditori kubasa izvozvi,” he said.
When asked to comment about the reports of him claiming asylum in Germany, he referred our reporter back to the source: “Go back to your sources,” he said, without saying anything further while not denying the veracity of the  allegations. The source who broke the story is a highly placed individual within Makuvise’s camp.
It was when Makuvise was asked if he is returning to Zimbabwe that he immediately put the phone down saying he could not talk while in the embassy building. “Ndiri pakabatikana parizvino – I am in a very difficult situation where I cannot talk,” he replied soon after entering the embassy building on Monday morning.
Unconfirmed reports within the MDC-T party state that Makuvise, applied for asylum in Germany long before outgoing ambassador to Australia, Jacqueline Zwambila.
MDC-T spokesman, Douglas Mwonzora has since said he is not aware of the development while yet adding that Makuvise’s decision would be personal.
“I have no knowledge about Ambassador Makuvise, but any communication between the party and the ambassadors is confidential,” he said.
“The decision to seek asylum is a personal one by a person after assessing their situation. It is up to the Government of the day to give assurance to the ambassadors in question that their safety will be guaranteed,” said Mwonzora.

  3. Even if Makuvise wanted to come home what will he and his family come to and to do what? The economy is collapsing, 85% unemployment, no Zesa,no water, people have no money and can’t get it from the banks if they have it etc. People are arrested on flimsy grounds and stay in jail for long periods and then freed. Some die in jail b4 trial and only to be acquited in death. Is this the country Makuvise should be coming to? No way man better stay in jail in Germany if need be.

  4. After tasting sweet life he doesnt want to go back and suffer with the masses. The guys are a national shame. Why accept the post in the first place if your heart is not in the job and country? He should have refused the post and left it for those willing to serve the nation.

  5. Zimbabwe is in deep, deep trouble because MDC did not implement the democratic reforms. People like Makuvise had a voice as ambassador and they should have used that voice to push for real change. They did not and now the whole nation is paying dearly for it. The least they can do now is go back home and suffer the consequences of their incompetence and greed with the millions of ordinary Zimbabwe caught up in the nightmare.

  6. A burden on German tax payers. You did nothing to improve the situation, yet you like nice things, “I am in Germany now Ambuya, I will bring mzukuru Dunken, and you should see the highways here”. Stupid mentality from stupid people, constantly embarrassing Africans. Stay there, uri d(u)zvi, dh(o)di chairo!!

  7. its hard to blame someone who has tasted milk and honey to go back where they will eat vinegar and chilli. Had zanu pf put the economy in order as they had promised, i dont they would hve sought asylum

  8. i am actually vexed by the dates here, which is which?.anyway i have got a feeling that all the ambassadors from mdc will apply for these so-called asylum as they are in the same boat as zwambila and makuvise

  9. He is a coward. He did nt shame Mugabe bt Tsvangirai who needed his support back.Moneymonger
