ZimEye has been requested by the family of the Chadzimura’s to publish the photo of Mr Jairos Chadzimura who was killed in an inferno in Pomona, Harare on Sunday after police officers attending the scene left his body unattended overnight despite discovering it in good time for all procedures needed on Sunday afternoon.
Police officers attending the scene on Sunday were blasted after they allowed Mr Chadzimura’s body to stay unattended to overnight saying that investigations needed to be carried out. warning-jpg
“We told them and even complained to them, but they said they wanted to take photos and carry out investigations first,” said son, Mr Emmanuel Chadzimura.
Even when they stayed on through the night, the cops guarding the place stayed at a distanced several hundred metres away,” he added. The full names of the police officers in charge could not be obtained at time of writing.

Mr Jairos Chadzimura, a family man aged 71, died on Sunday afternoon in Pomona during the fire blaze which has engulfed the dumping site where he was both working and residing. He was killed while trying to recover his goods as his house went under the flames.
Donations for the burial via Ecocash can be forwarded to 0773579414  (00263773579414).

The Harare fire brigade struggled to put out the fire which needed several helicopters to handle but they had none. Eye witnesses say that the fire was started by people who were attempting to get rid of some rubbish at the site area which sits on a square kilometre designated for dumping by the city council. To date there have been no arrests by the Police despite investigations which commenced on Sunday.

  1. I think investigations are in order or the headline is misleading because the old man is not burnt in anyway watsoeva.

  2. I think on this police were right to do thorough investigations how come the clothes are intact and not burnt??

  4. sekuru vaigara mumarara he had his shack imomo f he had relatives why ddnt they look after him ol his lyf?????n as wel as th smoke was too much for police to stay close in th dumping area …..

  5. This is very sad and touching incident involving an elderly folk. What I dont understand and is not being made clear is whether mushakabvu had a house that was near the rubbish site, or it was within the site? And how did the relatives leave an elderly man to live alone near the rubbish or within the rubbish site? Again, did the police abandon the body all night or they guarded it from a distance? Its not clear from the report. If they abandoned it, we condemn them strongly because anyone could return and temper with whatever evidence they wanted from photos. If they guarded it at a distance, I can understand and empathise with them. I am not intent on causing further distress to relatives and readers, but I urge my fellow countrymen; lets treasure our elders and care for them. They may be our parents, grandparents or relatives, please lets kindly watch over them in their last days on this miserable earth. With old age come some stubborness and difficulties or desire for indepepndence the young ones may not comprehend; but lets persevere and live and look after our elderly folks and not let them stay alone to die such horrible deaths. I am not saying anything wrong happened here as I do not know any details, but would like to take this opportunity to remind fellow Zimbabweans about the duty we have over our elderly folks. These are our ancestors we will be telling stories about to our future generations.
