Kirsty Coventry demands Lobola from Boyfriend thumbnail

Top Zimbabwe swimmer and Olympian, Kirsty Coventry, is demanding that her fiancé, Tyrone Seward pay lobola (or dowry in English) before they get married.

Kirsty who turns 29 on September 16, 2012 also disclosed that she does not have any immediate plans to have children.

Tyrone Seward has revealed that Kirsty’s father has asked him when he intends to do the honourable thing which is to pay the precious bride price.

Seward, the Chinhoyi born and bred hopeful who has been Kirsty Coventry’s manager for the last two years, said he is at present still ‘looking into it’.

Kirsty said that there will be no wedding without lobola.

“Right now we are celebrating our engagement but we have not yet decided about the wedding.

Tyrone is currently working on his lobola for my father. He knows that there would be no wedding before paying lobola,” Coventry was quoted as saying by the Zimbabwe Standard.

Kirsty enjoys her plate of sadza in London

Miss Coventry was placed 6th in the just ended Olympic Games. She had not been in top form after she battled a knee injury as well as pneumonia just prior to the games. Kirsty has however been elected by fellow athletes to the International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Coventry is still passionate about sport in Zimbabwe. She told the Standard “I still have a very big role to play in Zimbabwean sport, especially in swimming. I want to be heavily involved but I am not yet too sure about the exact role I will be playing… We have some extremely talented athletes here in Zimbabwe but we cannot just expect them to go and win medals in major competitions. That is why I want to be involved in supporting athletes.”

Nedondog, bhora musango as usual off-topic. Where have I ever praised Western culture? I have praised some of their political decisions, especially with regards to the party of brain-dead maggots ZPF… is that akin to glorifying their culture? Haiwawo…

Everything is set for the big day and l will be the Stone (sadombo / munyai) during the ceremony. I’ve already given the list to Seward and the breakdown which includes: (1) Opening mouth, (2) Scratching beareds, (3) Where did you hear me from. (4) Cow for mother. (5) Cattle which steps and those for money. (6) The main bride price, among other things. Yes, Kirsty knows very well where she is coming from, we have indegenised her. Unlike these other gays led by Gaygodzva and Jumpdog who does’nt know what marriage is all about, Kirst is doing the right thing for herself.

Kirsty, Best Wishes to you and your fiancé Tyrone. Please ignore some of the idiotic comments from CIOs here, true Zimbabweans are proud of your achievements for the motherland over the years and you are a true role model.

  24. PROUDLY MTHWAKAZI on Mon, 20th Aug 2012 2:08 pm

Kirsty, it is called “LOBOLO” (noun), and not “LOBOLA”.

    “LOBOLA” is a verb!!!

@Bla Miki. I will come on Tyrone’s side. May be just to address yo list before we come:
    (1) Vhuramuromo – Wakavharwa naani muromo wacho?
    (2) Matekenyandebvu – We will pay with a shaving machine and aftershave.
    (3) Makandinzwanani – Kirsty ndiye aka-invita Tyrone paFacebook.
    (4) Mombe yamai – We hear Kirsty’s mother already has her own cattle.
    (5) Mombe dzinotsika – Kutsika paiko? Pane dzisingatsiki here?
    (6) Mombe dzemari – Don’t understand?? I thought cattle are not made of money but flesh and bones?
    (7) Rugaba – What size of tins do you want us to bring?
    (8) Rusambo – What is this? Look Bla Miki, don’t complicate an otherwise simple process. Are you trying to be extortionate, creating imaginary expenses just to get money from me? Now this is the 8th item for payment, just for the one transaction of marriage? Agghh, no!

  31. Bla Miki on Tue, 21st Aug 2012 6:26 pm

Ha-aa, Baba Kuku chirungu chekuti rusambo ndicho chanzvenga uyezve mwana wedu is ivhijini saka tinoda jira risina buri pakati nemombe yechimanda. And you Mavambo, true to your opposition stance do you think tirikuita zvekutamba here isu? Mhandara ndeyedu iwe uri kuda kupikisa chii? We don’t want this marriage to take place in the month of goat therefore Seward must make quick this payment.

Roora lobola. Its is dowry in English, the editor noted. That means lobola is not an English word. Lobola is a Shongilish word.

Kirsty values African culture because she is African, stupid! Why am I even explaining this? It is clear that all the people writing nasty racist staff against her are not Africans or Zimbabweans. We don’t care what they think. She is our African hero up there with Sally Mugabe, Nehanda, and many others.
