Leeds(ZimEye)Sanctions, enticement and pressure have not worked to remove Robert Mugabe, former UK Foreign Secretary of State David Miliband said Thursday just as it was also announced Mugabe’s ally former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, had been caught and killed.
David Miliband said a number of measures carried out to remove Robert Mugabe which include pressure and enticement in the past 20 years have not worked.
As Zimbabwe draws close to elections, greater international attention should to be turned on Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe, Miliband said.

Sanctions have not worked...David Miliband

“Every British government in the last 20 years has scratched its head on what to do about Mugabe…Sanctions don’t work. Pressure doesn’t work. Enticement doesn’t work,” he said as he added that greater attention should now be directed towards Mugabe as the former British colony draws closer to elections.
Miliband was responding to questions by ZAPU member Fanyana Moyo who had asked his opinion on the possibility of an Arab spring style uprising taking place in Zimbabwe “bearing in mind Robert Mugabe has instilled fear in the masses”.
Just before Miliband began his speech, it was announced on the media across the world that Mugabe’s longtime Libya ruler ally Muammar Gaddafi had been killed by National Transitional Council forces and footage of Gaddafi being dragged alive before his death were splattered across the internet.
The meeting took place during a labour party campaign engagement at the Leeds Metropolitan University. (ZimEye, Zimbabwe)

But seriously, we do not want NATO in our country.we do not want war, it will just take us back to the stone ages and our beautiful country will end up in ruins like Somalia etc.Anoda NATO ngaaende ikoko aendeswe kunana Afghanistan anopedzera shungu dzese dzekurwa ikoko.NO WAR.

  3. to the above idiots: ARE YOU AWARE IT COSTS MONEY TO DROP BOMBS and in my opinion its too costly to drop bombs on Zimbabwe when everyone knows Mugabe and his cohorts can do it with less. Better still the Zimbabwean police and central intelligence with just a flick of his gnarled finger will cause untold suffering in a few hours.

  4. I second Mingo, clammering for Nato bombs on Zim can only be from those that are beggars in the EU. If they are zimbos they should have relatives in zim.Where do they think the bombs will fall?Do they still believe in the theory of precision guided bombs. wwhats their take on collatral damage and friendly fire and most of all how do you plan to pay for those bombs? Africa sent you schools to be better ppl and not arse lickers

  5. I can’t believe it to hear some of our brethren preaching the gospel of NATO invasion into our country? what is wrong with you guys.problem with those guys is they don’t even stay in Zim, they are out there, don’t kno things at the ground, in Zimbabwe guys, for the 1st time we can drive our own cars thru farming coz we got our land, just because makatiza nyika muri ma sellouts u start to invite western rule kuti izokonzeresa nyonga nyonga, if yo mother is dead is yo dad dead also, huya kumba ukumbire ruregerero we will accept u. kumba kune peace joy and hamorn

  6. could someone open my eyes on this one. who usually gets imposed as leader in a country thats been freshly bombed the Nato way? is it not one of the so called exiles who are groomed in Nato counries. Was it not the case in Iraq, Ivory Coast etc? Is there anyone from Zim being groomed somewhere to take over after the bombs fall?

  7. I’m surprised people would go as far as calling for NATO to effect a regime change. Afganistan, iraq, yugoslavia, now Libya…those bombs falling from the sky don’t seem selective. And I havent seen democracy and peace springing forth after the bombs.
It’s so easy opening your mouth, asking for NATO to come and bomb whilst pacing up and down aimlessly in Leicester or Wolvermpton. Very easy indeed. Come home and help rebuild the nation.

  8. What zimbabwe we can? The last time i checked their website, their leadership was just a list of shona meaning its a shona culture group advovating vor shona supremacy only. Vor the records , Moyo dies not Belong to Zimbabwe we can or zapu but to a powerful Organisation.

  9. this sibindi, you shallow minded idiot, u should think before u act Mr Fanyana Moyo for your information is not a ZAPU member or a Zimbabwe we can, carr he is just an ordernary Zimbabwean if you have an problem with this article talk to the editor, even if you cal this man with names let me tell u that the wind for charnge is now blowing, down with the direct violence and culture of violence. that your brothers are using against innocent Zimbabweans. stay confused and remember to keep checking your balance as you can’t stand on your own.

  10. i thought sanctions were imposed to force mugabe to tow the line, whatever that means but to my dismay is now blatantly revealed as a regime change exercise, which we knew anyway.we dont need fast tracked democracy imposed from elsewhere. i feel for anything to be sustainable it must be homegrown, but of course we can learn from other civilizations.democracy my ppl can only be achieved through trial and error and as such we africans must be allowed to make and correct our own mistakes.Believe you me my ppl we can, just look at the inroads we are making in sports, economics etc

  11. @ Cool Guy,
I am wondering on where you live. What or which freedom of speech are you alluding to? In Zimbabwe you can hardly find a newspaper which say anything positive about Pres. Mugabe. The private media call him names; degrade him; humiliate him; soil his name, children and wife; hail insults at him and nothing is done to those journalist. So what freedom of speech are you talking about? From a humane point of view is one allowed to talk wildly about someone?
Freedom of Speech is there in Zimbabwe but what is not permitted is Freedom of Abusive Speech.

  12. I tend to agree with you Kuboni on this “imported regime change doctrine” . It did not work in Iraq. Killing one individual Saddam has not brought any peace. If I were a journalist I would certainly ignore this speech by the former British foreign secretary. It is only good in misleading people. The solution is in holding free and fair elections. Remember we all have have to make the elections free. If you insult the way you do here then forget about free and fair elections and THERE WILL BE NO BOMBINGS HERE BY NATO. Forget it. Just work towards elections and choose the best candidates who will work for the development of the country. Hallucinations about Britain bombings will never be wishes or dreams come true!

  13. I dont belive in this sh*t that is call indipendance day in zimbabwe, hw can u be indipendent whilst u dnt hve a freedom of speech, if u say something rong about mugabe you get arested ??????????????? thats bullsh*t i hpe this son of a b*tch can die like a dog!!!!!!!!

  14. Hw tha hell on earth can u support a dictactor like mugabe who killed Ndebele people like ants? fuck him and his party including his suppoters!!!!!!

  15. You advocates of regime change through imperialsits what does not seem to occur in you is that each a time the Americans drop their bombs they them photograph and photograph again the destruction caused and boast to their allies on how destructive their bombs can are as compared to those of their other allies such France. They never talk about how close to democracy each explosion brings you. Some whole families will be wiped out in their sleep by the drones. Wait and see what is to follow in Libya.

  16. Its all about stupidity and selfishness and nothing else. Imagine, the same people who are calling for NATO intervention are the very people who travelled the world over requesting the international community to impose sanctions on their own country. The same people are hidden somewhere doing menial jobs in wait for a regime change. lf l may ask, what has gone wrong with our road map towards general elections next year that could usher in your much cherished party into power if you believe the majority of the people are behind him? Why cant we have elections which could determine the will of the people other than effect change through evil force from NATO? Are you fools aware that if this current government incorporates your own mdc party?

  17. This Fanyana Moyo is a confused man.Recently he was in Zimbabwe We Can Movement.Today he is claiming to be in Zapu where he had said he left because, they have nothing to offer. Now he is saying he is Zapu again.I think in Zimbabwe We Can they couldn’t tolarate his tribal tendances.

  18. Isn’t this total admittance that Britain has been meddling in the internal affairs of Zimbabwe. We have been suffering for a long time as Britain and its allies have been trying to strangle our nation through sanctions, pressure and enticement. In turn they point a finger at Pres. R.G. Mugabe as a bad leader.
To those who wish to see NATO in Zimbabwe doing what it knows best, destruction, just imagine the R.B.Z. building, Joina City turned into rubbles in the name of democracy. May those in the diaspora zip their mouths on such issues.

  19. you are gullible to believe that the NATO attack on Gaddafi has anything to do with democracy.
Try to understand what has gone wrong in Iraqi , the lie about weapons of mass destruction etc, then you can see the real reason why tghe West is behaving in such a way.
If The British see African with respect, they why do they treat them sio badly in nthe UK and the rest of Europe.

  20. Give peace a chance. That we dd nt stage an uprising is a result of our respect for Mugabe and the sanctity of life.In the same context we feel our leaders must do the right things. In Libya dd the end justify the means?AU I is loudly quite bcoz its worthless talking of non workable African solutions designed to keep friends in power.

  21. Zimbabwe will never be a colony again:Chinokurwadzai chii mabritish,Mugabe is not British!! Africa is not Europe!! Let the people of Africa deal with their own problems please, look how many pple were killed by the NATO strikes in Libya,Dead cities evrythng is dead and yu an africa, want to invite terror in your house,Kuraiwo mhani a nhu wee-solve your own problems

  22. Thank you so much Cde Ndlovu and Cde OJ. l shall not comment further other than to say that your dreams of a NATO invasion will never see its day come rain or thunder, FOOLS. Pamberi nakomuredhi vakasunungura nyika ino

  23. What a dreamer this Ndlovu is! Extremely foolish fellow. How do you fight against imperialism by cutting open by an AK buoneet the womb of a 20 year old pregnant poor African lady in the rural areas? Foolish thought indeed. Only a gun deals effectively with such stupid thoughts.

  24. OJ you have spoken right, Zimbabwe is nort Arab and Arab is not Zimbabwe, Gaddaffi had no excuse for his tyranny even Saddan Hussain was just evil with no excuse why he was doing those evil BUT ZIMBABWE IS A VICTIM OF WHITE SUPREMACY AND IMPERIALISM HENCE MUGABE TRIES TO FIGHT FOR HIS COUNTRY LIKE ANYBODY WOULD DO

  25. OJ dear, how shall I bear with u? Which other family needs to be protected from elimination which hasn’t bn eliminated already? “Processes happening in Zim” my foot! Is it naivety or selective amnesia? I say – by any means necessary, the govt should change in Zim!

  26. william grow up! what action do you need? Why not set up a political party and challenge the incumbent. Inviting the British to wreak havoc and possibly eliminate your own family is not a well thought out endeavour. There are far more civilised ways of dealing with this problem, like you personally demanding that he step down or voting for that matter, YOU cant be proposing ridiculous solutions from your place of employ in england or elsewhere.I believe there are processes happening in zim now, constitution rewrite, gnu etc. what more do you want, quick fix solutions to please other ppl other than your own. we should design systems to uphold our values and inspirations and stop entertain others by inviting them to test their bombs and ammunitions on our ppl
