A campaign headed by a South African pastor, Rev Mxolisi Sonti to block controversial US singer Lady Gaga from entering and staging shows in South Africa has flopped, it has emerged.
Rev Sonti, the leader of the South African Council of Churches, planned to block Lady Gaga from visiting the country saying that the singer would introduce Satanism to the nation.
Sonti said that South African politicians should use the same power they used to block Chinese anti-government spiritualist the Dalai Lama from entering the country.
Lady Gaga who it is claimed once performed a satanic ritual in a London hotel room, is set to perform two stadium shows in South Africa and scheduled to be in Johannesburg on November 30 at the FNB Stadium and in Cape Town on December 3 at the Cape Town Stadium.
During her tour to the Philippines in May, a group of Christian youths protested against Lady Gaga’s Born This Way tour, saying the pop star’s music mocks Jesus Christ and God.
Reverend Mxolisi Sonti, who is also secretary of the youth forum, said they are afraid of the extent of Satanism in South Africa, and Gaga’s visit could lead to an exponential growth of Satanism. He also claimed that if the government could stop the Dalai Lama from coming to South Africa, then they can stop Lady Gaga as well.
But the plans proved a flop after politicians played a blind eye to the calls.
Pastor Sonti would later write asking for strength: “God Lord give me more strength. This is your work not mine. I’m just your servant. Sukuvuma bawo ngam nokuba uSatane adlalise ngam, ndiyakucela andikulayeli,” he said.

Many other people from other countries of different continents come to South Africa and, while they were here and faced economic crisis, turned to murdering us, raping us, robbing us, kidnapping our children, selling drugs to our children, abused women, being cruel to our animals and poaching them; all in process of damaging our beautiful country. Where were you, religious people, you who said and did nothing about these much worse crimes, even worse than Lady Gaga coming here to sing in her own concert? And yet, these foreigners as much as our local people still kill far too many people, far more than Lady Gaga, who have murdered no one.
Well, the outrage at one person (Lady Gaga) coming to our shores is far more than the criminals-in-making coming across this country. The only people that started this particular outrage is the religious people and so far they seem pretty much intent on becoming Hitler, Stalin and Kim Jong II styled dictators on ruling our choices of entertainment and relaxation. She just came here to sing, not to be a fodder for religious hate.
Lady Gaga does not make our children rebellious. It is rather more a phase than an influence in which everyone finds themselves in situations where they depend on themselves. If Lady Gaga is responsible for many rebellious acts, then she may be a goddess. But in reality, she is not responsible so therefore a human being. You, religious people, do sure enjoy your stoning. Go ahead and stone her with all the hate spewed from your very mouths and pretend that you are very civilized. There is another thing I want to mention: you religious people love to use negative words such as ‘hell’, ‘evil’, ‘vile’ and ‘sin’ to name a few. In reality, they are imagined things that came up while our ancestors were in religious fever. There are, in reality, no evil or good. Life is just as it is. Crocodiles eat people because we are animals not because we are followers of Christ. We are a source of meat. Nothing else. That is a reality-based fact. And yet, we all are still subject to people filled with religious fever today trying to become dictators.
This letter is not to hate on the religious followers but rather a protest against their attempts to control us. They cannot shove their religious concepts down our throats. If you do not want to hear Lady Gaga’s songs, then simply not buy her tickets and ignore all her songs on the radios and televisions. Religion does not rule everyone’s lives, just remember that.
We all have one life to live, so do not attempt to control our choices to live our lives our way.
Religion is war and war is religion.
