Mutare’s four councillors led by the controversial new mayor Tatenda Nhambarare, on Monday once again came under the spotlight after they defied their party leader Morgan Tsvangirai uniting with ZANU PF in the setting up of local committees as they openly elected ZANU PF committee chairpersons for departments ahead of their own party cadres.
The MDC-T is now in the minority in the committees.
Council is run by committee chairpersons, the mayor, town clerk and heads of departments, and the councilors today met to elect the committee.tatenda_nhamarare
The committees are for the following departments: Finance, Housing, General Purposes, Audit committee, Procurement, Health, Environment.
The committee chairpersons together with the mayor and town clerk are collectively responsible for the day to day running of the city. MDC with its majority of 13 councillors against 9 of ZANU PF are supposed to land all the positions but 4 mdc councilors joined with ZANU PF to give the latter an advantage of 10 to 9.
The below is the preliminary table of positions as made available :
Finance  – Kenneth Kagoro ZANU PF
Audit      – George Jojo Zanu pf
General Purpose  – Mwanyara Jusa ZANU PF
Public works  – Richard Mupfura MDC rebel
Procurement  – Farai Bhiza MDC rebel
Environment Pamella Mutare MDC rebel
Housing Tandi Blessing MDC after spoiled votes

Last month the councilors shocked their party when they elected a deputy mayor from Robert Mugabe’s ZANU PF party.

  2. I thought we only had MDC, MDC-T, MDC-M and MDC99 and didn’t realise we now also have MDC-Rebel.Kikikikikii…pwa pwa pwa pwa pwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  3. bhora mughedhi vakomana, chamatama uchasura chando. With chombo as minister, ma mdc rebels haadzingiki.

  4. they are just keeping their jobs lest chombo will fire them, so they will be lead in audit and finance by a ZANUOD how hilarious

  5. Well done Mutare. Put people who are qualified and can serve the people.Remeber that Mutare is a city with almost 50/50 MDC & ZANU, hence you have a well balanced structure. Political affiliation is not the solution to Zim problems, but the ability to work together is the solution. Who thot Morgan and Robert would work together before GNU. But they did and that was the only time we all saw meaningful engagement and development for everyone.Thank you the SaManyikas, Wasu or Mutape for thinking outside the box.Harare and its goons should not dictate to you what is right or wrong, do as yopu think will serve your people and develop your city. Well done guys

  6. Hapana nyaya apa, if its done for the good of the people of Mutare, anything wrong with that? What we want is people who can deliver, tosiyana ne politics dzana Chematama dze confusion.

  7. Mdc must just expel these four from the party irrespective of who says what as these people are saying they do not have confidence in the policies of their party, that is if they even know those policies. I bet they will join zanupf immediately they are expelled.

  8. These are not heads of department. They are committee chairpersons and they don’t necessarily need professional qualifications in those committees. What they need is a sound understanding of the political programmes their respective political parties. These guys are simply political malcotents.

  9. I think committies’ chairpersons should depend on the professional/career qualification or experience of the candidate. If these Zanu guys have the qualifications and MDC T councillors dont, why should they not elect them for the development of their city?
