US Govt Blasts MDC-T Violence

The United States embassy has condemned the violence which erupted two weeks ago and resulted in among others MDC-T deputy treasurer general Elton Mangoma being attacked being attacked by a party mob. The attack resulted in Mangoma losing his spectacles as well, but MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s spokesman to date has said it was ‘only’ Mangoma’s shirt which was yanked.

The US embassy’s strongly worded statement which clearly states the violence occurred in Harare recently, was an apparent call on Tsvangirai to respect human rights, protect victims of violence, and to prevent future acts of internal party aggression in his party.

The statement read: “The U.S. Embassy has taken note of recent media reports on incidents of politically-motivated violence that have occurred in Harare.

“We condemn such acts of violence, which have no place in modern political discourse.  We enjoin all parties to respect the rule of law, freedom of assembly and the right to free speech, which should be the hallmarks of a modern, democratic Zimbabwe.  We call on all parties to protect victims of violence and to prevent future acts of violence.”

The US embassy statement comes as Morgan Tsvangirai was widely accused of failing to protect Mangoma during the attack on the 15th February. After the assault, Morgan Tsvangirai’s spokesman claimed Mangoma’s shirt was ‘only’ yanked by a youth while he was in a car. But numerous witnesses have revealed that Mangoma was attacked using brute force and he lost his spectacles which were smashed by the youths.  Two weeks later, Tsvangirai has remained mum on the attacks and has not mentioned a word on the destroyed spectacles.

  1. He will step down.we wil squeeze him.we ve dealt wth smarter idiots than this one.if he thought Targeted sanctions are meant fo ZPF only…he is joking.if his grassroots psychophants dont contribute to his coffers urgently they will soon realise that he is nothing wthout our mney.he failed to deliver what we sponsored him for…instead spent our money on cheap pussy lyk a teenager….we need serious politicians to tackle a principled wily fox lyk RGM not this glorified village champion….temporary gvt pampering n he lost his head in all sorts of cunts.thot by being in gvt he cld sniff all loopholes n raise alarm till reforms were executed….alas…Morgan is suddenly a horny teenager chasing loose ZPF skirts.

  2. Zvaburana gonzo nachin’ai!!…hopefully Chematama & MDC-T will quickly learn that western puppet-masters use the principle of “PERMANENT INTERESTS, and not permanent friends/foes”.
This might seem petty but it signals that the westerners have clearly abandoned Tsvangison…witness how they are starving him of any financial help.

  3. kana achinetsa ngadamburwe, inga ivo vari kuti vane masupporters, ngavaite hondo tione, musatambe ne povo akomana.

  4. I struggle to find how Tsvangirai should have stopped those murderous youths from doing their thing with Elton. Secondly, I find it very difficult to understand why Tamborinyoka says Elton’s shirt was just yanked. The US embassy has been very vocal against violence, especially when it was perpetrated by ZANU PF. We respect them this time around for condemning violence in the MDC-T. At least we know that they were not against ZANU PF per se but the violence within and by party. Thumps up!

  5. MDC-T members must assure the international community that they tolerate diverse opinions within their party. Obviously beating up a senior member of the party in the presence of their own president is a terrible behaviour. It is their leader who will bare the brunt of all criticism. Taking Mangoma away was not enough. The party must deal effectively with those who perpetrated violence. Condemning violence at a rally means nothing. No one can be fooled by empty public rhetoric. Through its structures the party must have identified the culprits and disciplined them effectively. Both Mangoma and Biti have indicated that they were attacked by people organised from within. Journalist have protested against MDC-T violence on their members. Some MDC-T members have been convicted for attacking journalists. MDC-T is indeed a violent party now. Losing election after election even after practically winning in 2008 and then degenerating into a violent mob of thugs does give anyone hope that these people are capable of doing anything apart from sex, beer and money making by some members including some terribly illiterate members of Members of Parliament. That is why there are loud calls for a leadership renewal or big change of strategy.

  6. Tsvangirai should should find a moderate person who can make job sikhala, welshaman, bernett and the Biti renewal team come back as one united front. 2018 i can see bhora musango for Morgan lose. SIMBA MAKONI IS A MODERATE technocrat , they should make him president of one united MDC until they go to a congress. Wake up Tsvangirai

  7. this story is aiming soiling Tsvangirayi’s name, the report is very clear why did you ignore mugabe who kills people like lice.

  8. This statement neither mentions Tsvangirai or Mangoma and does not apportion blame on anyone, it just says political violence is condemned. So stop twisting words and lying in the event, Zimeye!

  9. Your report contains a lot of unnecessary inaccuracies, feeding into the growing view that your site has something against the MDC president, or, as some say, that it has been taken over by Zanu PF. As a long-time reader, I am appalled by your lack of journalistic standards. 1. Tsvangirai condemned the violence at a rally in Glen Norah the very next day.
2.He took Mangoma away from the scene and his vehicle drove him home.
    3. Mangoma’s statement to Police says he does not know who attacked him, so why blame Tsvangirai.
Being able to publish does not give you the right to libel and defame other people. If this amateurish reporting based on falsehoods continues, I will have to report the violations

  10. mari yemadonors inengozi. chamakadya chamuka. pazvaitaurwa maifunga kuti idambe and honesly kana Tsvangirai naMdhara vakasiya mapato avo nhasi haafe akasimba sezvaari. The only way they can do their things in Zanu pf is to groom Mdhara’s successor gradually by appointing someone for the party president while Mdhara remains the country president and commander in chief. That way Zanu pf will even be stronger. On the other side Morgan must just converne an exurcutive counsil meeting and let them choose the one they need to succeed him. Dont try to hide behind the constitution because between them noone is following it. Never ever think Tsvangirai will win against VaMugabe fairly or by rigging. Groom your successorzs now if you are serious and let the pple know them. A constitution is just like a robbot, how many pple have entered red robbots at the corner of simon mazorodze and willovale? The lancaster was amended 19 times so whats so special nekaconstution keparty. No wonder why not even a quarter cast their ballots. People are tired of being used. You spend the whole day waiting for a certain party president to come and ot high tables they will be having mineral water and orange crush. using your money for transport…….Next time dont vote coz it doesnt count anything. you wake up eary and vote but someone is defeated he tells you of nikuv. Then why did you enter into that election? Why are your MPs in August house. Dont lie to the pple coz tinofungao.
