Vice President John Nkomo Death Rumours

Published: December 8, 2012

A Bulawayo  online publication has just reported claiming that the Vice President, John Landa Nkomo died quietly Saturday morning in Bulawayo surrounded by his close family members. The paper also appeared to confirm that even senior ZANU PF politiburo members confirmed the sad and shocking loss.

John Nkomo has reportedly been suffering from a cancer-related illness in the last few years that has seen him in and out of hospital while at times he has been airlifted to hospitals in South Africa for special treatment.

This news alert could be part of the spate of related news that have floated on various times in the media as the Honorable Vice President has continued to battle cancer and at times spending lengthy periods of time away from the office in hospitals.

At the currently-ongoing Gweru conference, the Vice President was not in attendance and as a more senior Vice President than Joice Mujuru, his health challenges saw Mujuru serving as Acting President when President Mugabe recently travelled out of the country.

John Nkomo was born on August 22nd 1934 and once served as the Minister of Labour, Manpower Planning and Social Welfare and then became the Speaker of Parliament from 2005 to 2008. In 2009 he was the Minister of State in the President’s Office.

Prior to those roles John Nkomo was an influential ZAPU leader as he served under Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo. Once the Unity Accord was signed between ZANU PF and ZAPU, John Nkomo moved over to ZANU PF and occupied top ranks together with Joshua Nkomo. Some years later he became the National Chairman of ZANU PF up until 2009 when President Mugabe appointed him to be a Vice President as he filled the ZAPU seat once occupied by the late Joseph Msika.

He seemed a kind man and if this rumour is proven to be true, this is a real sad loss indeed. So does this mean Simon Khaya Moyo for VP? because this is a ndebele replacement for VP.

It turns out Mr Nkomo is alive & still battling cancer. Its nice to know he is surrounded by supportive family & loved ones. He seems to hold the record of the only ZANU member with cross-party respect & admiration. Bob should take a page out of this great statesman’s book.

    Much love Mr Nkomo!

In as much as I do sympathise and really feel for John Nkomo and family for the careless and irresponsible journalism of such magnitude, THE FACT IS THAT SOON OR LATER JOHN NKOMO WILL DIE. AT 78 a Zimbawean especially from the undiputedly the most impoverished region in the country the guy has hugely surpassed his BEST BY DATE. THIS IS A COMMON problem and real cause of concern for most of us in the ZANU PF leadership. EVEN IF WE RIG OR truly win the next elections we will be heading straight to the heroes acre to retire most of the weary comrades. Unfortunately we forgot to put it on our just ended congress agenda that we needed a burials central committee.Looks like ZANU PF should change its motif of apparandi to a burial society

  33. Bla Miki on Mon, 10th Dec 2012 4:46 am

Whether he dies or not everybody is going to die. I died for this country the same thing applied to chinotimba and many of our zanupf cadres. They all died for this nation yet we are alive and fighting against selllouts.

  35. Cha Chimurenga on Tue, 11th Dec 2012 11:47 am

There is a tendancy of irresponsible reporting by these new online publications which write tales without researching the authenticity of such stories. If l was nkomo’s family member l should have engaged legal minds with view of suing these rogue publication.
