Police had to be called in at Harvest House on Saturday afternoon when a handful of youths known to be aligned to party leader Morgan Tsvangirai attacked national council member, Elton Mangoma and other cadres threatening to kill them. Police had to be called in to break the violence the second in three weeks at the MDC headquarters.
Until today the youths had been plotting violence Mangoma due to his calling for leadership renewal in the party.

“It is shocking that this thing actually took place right in Tsvangirai’s face and with him smiling. He never made an effort to tell his youths to back off but he remained staring at Mangoma being beaten up. It was so clear and obvious that these people were sponsored by Tsvangirai” a senior party source said.
The meeting had been called by Tsvangirai who summoned provincial heads hoping to get himself re-endorsed as party leader following the criticism.
However it was not a meeting at all since violent youths who were lodged at Adelite Acres the previous night controlled all proceedings in Tsvangirai’s presence without him addressing their unruly behaviour. The youths continued chanting songs denouncing both Mangoma and secretary general Tendai Biti.
At the time of writing police officers were arriving at Harvest House as the Tsvangirai youths were blocking other party members from exiting the building.

It’s obvious that Tshwangison is a the weak link in the MDC, he had repeatedly failed his supporters, with his actions, utterances and failures. Mangoma is right to demand a leadership change, Tshwangison has outlived his usefulness. Political competition is healthy, but voters deserve a more qualitative alternative. The current MDC leadership have proven that they are just all about self-enrichment and that already disqualifies them as potential national leadership. If the MDC wants to have any serious chance at rattling the cage of the ruling party, they should weed out the rot in the system (the current leadership) and re-stategise.

There is nothing unusual here to say the least. Given all the that have been brewing for a long time in the party this is expected and is a result of latent intro-party conflicts that have gone for long unresolved.
I could see it coming in one way or the other. Hatisati takura in the democratic process and so it’s still a long way to go for us and as a result this is what happens. Having said that, and reading between the lines, I would like to believe ZANU PF has a hand in all this as MDC remain the only opposition of equal threat in the absence of rigging and intimidation for people to vote for it. ZANU PF had celebrated in advance the scandals that Tsvangirai had found himself in and thought he had been completely destroyed yet they see he keeps clinging on to power.
They have strategically planted chaotic elements from within and this is helping in bringing more turmoil in the party, but this is not to say Tsvangirai is smart in all this. He is still and interested figure in leading the party and will try in every way possible to remain so, but to wholly think it’s all coming from him is not true. If Tsvangirai is to go then the entire leadership should go, I believe they failed as a team and they should just let the leadership rise from the lower ranks, without hope of dislodging ZANU PF in the near future of cause. For anyone within the MDC to dream of leading the party in 2018 and defeat ZANU is unthinkable.
People should look beyond what they feel. If the point is to dislodge ZANU PF then there is need to rally behind the current leadership, re-build confidence in the people, re-brand and fight for a common cause let the party win elections and then let the current leadrship leave office. That’s how I see it.
To think that you can form a new political party to mobilise support and win against ZANU PF is a dream that will remain lodged in the pipepline. It’s gonna be ZANU for the next 50 years from now.
