Zimbabwe Vice President John Landa Nkomo, has died, ZimEye can reveal.
VP Nkomo’s death was announced on Thursday morning.
ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa told ZimEye the HON Nkomo has died.
“It is true, vashaikwa,” he said on Thursday afternoon.
He had battled cancer for several years.John Nkomo
Following his passing away, the United States embassy became the first foreign mission to issue a statement of condolence.
The embassy said it:
“expresses its condolences to the family and the people of Zimbabwe on the death of Vice President John Landa Nkomo. Whether as a teacher, a politician, an advocate for Zimbabwe’s independence, or as a public servant, Vice President Nkomo was a patriot who dedicated his life to Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and prosperity. As a leader of PF ZAPU and ZANU-PF, Mr. Nkomo played an important role in shaping the course of Zimbabwean history. May he rest in peace.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy and heartfelt to the Nkomo family, Zanu PF party and the country at large following the tragic demise of the veteran freedom fighter VP Landa John Nkomo. He was an illustrus son of the souil, a dedicated cadre, a fearless comrade and a fierry politician who stood for the total imansipation for his people. I was peeved by his untimely departure, may his soul rest in eternal peace. It was J. Nkomo, J. Msika, now J. Nkomo, so the tripple Js have gove, this post of VP is a controversial in the Zanu PF party. Now the question peddled the internet, media and internet is WHO WILL FIT IN NKOMO’S SHOES? Some are saying Simon Khaya Moyo, some are saying Obert Mpofu, some are seconding Skhanyiso Ndlovu, and the majority of Matabeleland are saying Naison Ndlovu. Therefore, will Obert Mpofu override Khaya Moyo, as he is already in the presidium? I don’y know. yes Obert Mpofu have the majority favours in the whole region of Matabeleland, Skhanyiso Ndlovu is being favoured in Bulawayo. will president Mugabe prefer Khaya Moyo than Mpofu? Some people from streets are saying they should call Dumiso Dabengwa, but he had sour relationship with the former rulling party. Again if Simon Khaya Moyo fit in the shoes of the late VP Nkomo, chaos will stimulate in Zanu PF again for who will became National Chairperson. Didymas Mutasa, Emmerson Mnangagwa, Webester Shamu, Rugare Gumbo are all reported to have the equal previledges. Gumbo is the party’s spokesperson, Shamu is the National Commissar, Mutasa is the secretary for Admin, while Mnangagwa is the gossiped Mugabe successor. Zimbabweans what can be the situation now? Will Nkomo’s death leave peace in Zanu PF and in the country too? Let us see.

  10. He is that minister who remained licking gukurahundi mugabe’s asshole in 1984, when the rest of the zapu ministers resigned in solidarity with jmqabuko nkomo after he was fire from government. He was later fired though by the gukurahundi. Asslicking gukurahundis is an unforgivable sin. Otherwise RIP.

    Rest in peace. John Nkomo was one of the few people who really fought to free the country. A true freedom fighter!

  31. RIP VP Nkomo, Now that he has gone, chaos might arise from Matabeleland as to whom will fit in his shoes. Before he was appointed to the post of VP, anexus had been witnessed between the former ZAPU cadres as it was a fact that the Senate VP Nison Ndlovu will become Zimbabwe’s VP coz when the Unity Accord was signed, he was the party’s chairperson and Landa was junior. Now the contenting issue is whether Naison Ndlovu win the post as the Mines minister Obert Mpofu and prominent educationist Skhanyiso Ndlovu alsohave the features to fit in. The question will be raised again as Obert Mpofu is closer to the presidium, while Skhanyiso is silent now days. Naison Ndlovu is active, but the ZANU icons may reject his appointment. By the way, Iam deeply suddened by the demise of the VP Nkomo, It comes where we want him most. Therefore, I amexpressing my deepest sympathy and heartfelt on this stragic loss. may his soul rest in eternal peace.
