Zimbabwe: Security-Shielded ZANU-PF Continues to Rot thumbnail

Zanu PF hardens on security sector reforms: HOPES of instituting security sector reforms before the forthcoming elections are fast evaporating as Zanu PF continues with its stranglehold on the military, analysts have warned – this was one of the stories topping the charts on Sunday morning.

Nineth letter to Zimbabweans, at home and abroad‏

Dear fellow Zimbabweans. Greetings! Zanu(PF) is an extremely strange party with weird people and in which bizarre things happen. Most people in that party, which has since become a haven of criminals and other miscreants, commit horrendous crimes and seek protection of the party.

Let me give a bit of some chronology:

Former Minister of Education Aeneas Chigwedere formed a housing co-operative Gwindingwi a few years ago for teachers. They were fleeced of $25 000 then and Robert Mugabe kept quiet. No rebukes, no charges, etc as long as one supports the near-nonagenarian leader.

Energy Mutodi, another ZANU(PF) member forms another co-op. He takes his own thousands from home-seekers and never delivers. After several excesses, he is ‘arrested’ but we know its only a public relations gimmick. His home in Domboshava was built by several contractors and he would always renege on paying them.

Enter Cde Joseph Chinotimba, the unofficial and effective debt collector. When you send him to collect your debt, he never comes back empty-handed and is quite fierce and hence better than all official debt-collectors and the Zanu Republic Police put together. And forget about the fact that he is the vice president of a trade union umbrella body, he charges 10% of the debt for his work! So when he approached the normally obstinate Mutodi, he immediately spat the money.

By the way when you visit Harare, don’t forget to visit Chinotimba’s flea market in the Buya Tinapangana section of the city. Chinoz did not have to ask anyone for the space, he simply invaded it. And he is challenging anyone who wants to remove him to remove the Indians and Chinese around first. And who dares?

But the bizzarest event involves the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission led by Denford Chirindo. ZACC, under an Act of Parliament, is obligated to investigate corruption. When they investigate cases involving ZANU(PF) people, the party turns and accuses it of being political!

Normally, there are no cases involving MDC-T because it fires corrupt people in its rank-and-file. Usually the fired officials find room in ZANU where corruption stinks to heaven. ZACC’s investigators who include Sukai Tongogara, the late Tongo’s daughter were on the run after ZANU turned the heat on them for investigating them.

The organisation was lambasted left, right and centre. It began with corruption in high places. Obert Mpofu, the Minister of Mines, is arguably the richest minister in Zimbabwe. Around 2009 when money was so scarce he is said to have been given US$1,000,000 by the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe (CBZ). He is also said to have benefited immensely and personally from the country’s minerals. He now partly owns Bulawayo and most of Victoria Falls, they say and he has never denied it but boasts of financial prudence and riches! Saviour Kasukuwere is said to be a member of the dreaded CIO and so is Nicholas Goche.

It is said once a CIO always one. Kasukuwere is in charge of the notorious, barbaric and satanic indigenisation programme which benefits ZANU(PF) members without batting an eye, putting in a single cent or sweating. His indigenisation tale is one of scandal after another with the ZIMPLATS one scooping several awards including the Bungling of the Year Award. Goche is in charge of Transport, Communications and Infrastructure Development though we haven’t seen what he has done over the past five years. It is said he has been corrupt. If these chaps had been MDC-T, they would be doing time at Chikurubi Maximum Prison!

Then enter ZACC with its young enthusiastic staff. They are supposed to get good salaries so that they are not corrupted but some of them took home less than $20. Anyway, they do their jobs in the right way. They go to these bigguns but they don’t get any co-operation. Then they go to the Magistrate’s Court to apply for a search warrant but are denied one. Remember magistrates are also appointed by ZANU(PF) chefs. They go to the High Court. Its even worse! No permission is granted. Their naivety takes them to Robert Mugabe himself.

Obviously, the old man gave them an aud ence- expressing shock, sympathy, anger, his ignorance of the issue and how he would help! But then Robert Mugabe is no spring chicken but is wise and tactful. He does nothing about it. And remember he has his own shenanigans that need investigation by ZACC especially in Mazoe where the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe has acquired farms and properties throwing many hundreds of workers onto the streets! Despite the smile, she has not been angelic in her actions. Therefore, ZACC has to do three things. They have to conform, reform and deform. Its better than being hunted and thrown into the streets. Thus, they had to publicly acknowledge they had ‘made mistakes’. In future, they have to do better and not trouble corrupt ZANU(PF) chefs(reform). They would rather frustrate the incorruptible MDC (deform). Yours sincerely, Herbert Mugwagwa

Zanu PF makes mistakes that cost Europeans eternal glory in Zimbabwe. Zanu should remember that liberation struggle was not about replacing inequalities with Zanu pf corruption and banditry. Future stability of Zanu is questionable.

Your story has more to do with the usual zanooo corruption, looting and political patronage than security sector reforms and zanoo aligned militia elements.

What a misleading headline, a very dull and
non factual article. Suitable for a bar/shabeen
    discussion.

Tongogay, l pray that you are not by any means Chris. Cde Chando has just spoken out his mind and why insulting him instead of speaking out your own mind? Anyway, it shows one thing, that mdc is so violent as can be evidenced by your comments. As rightly observed by Mukadota here, Hebertdog has lost the plot once more. He has preferred to differ from his topic by bringing in the mdc election manifesto, the usual Chombo this, Kasukuwere that…da da da da da! Foolish sellouts, in Zimbabwe and anywhere in the world, no government shall be forced to undergo the so called security reforms whatsoever. That rubbish.

@Bla Miki can you tell us about Zanu pf’s manifesto? Besides the Kasukuwere led indigenisation thieving programme what else would Zanu talk about? Mugabe talks of peaceful election but has no clue of how to achieve the peace as he has no control of any of the security organs, he is just a scarecrow.

  14. Mukadota on Mon, 8th Apr 2013 11:03 am

Zanoo pee eef has nothing to talk of nowadays Physical Graffiti besides finding political solace through zanoo aligned courts. To add further the current strife wreaking havoc in the party, Jukwa leaks, Brainworks scandals, the indeginisation lootings, the demise of DCC structures and an increasingly senile incontinent leader make this party unelectable.

Obert Mpofu shame on you. Are you sure moving in and around Bulawayo filled with poverty whilst you bitting your shest, ‘I am the richest of them all.’ You and Chombo, surely you should be ashamed of yourself. Let me warn you, In a New Zimbabwe we are going grab what you have amased and give it back to the people.

  16. CHANDO KUPISA on Mon, 8th Apr 2013 1:05 pm

Idiot Tongogay, you are just one of the MDC zealots who shout for Security Reforms without saying what exactly you want “reformed”

Remember scary dreams are known as nightmares! We can not accept to be invited to partake in such mixups by one Herbert Mugwagwa who appears myopic. There has to be some linkage between the Title and Content in other words,Substance and Relevance to the issue at hand.Remember meaningful discussions and debates educate the public.
