Zimbabwe’s Tourism Minister has taken a swipe at Ephraim Tapa’s Zim Vigil protesters who raised placards against him advocating for the perpetuation of sanctions on Friday outside the think-tank London’s Chatham House where the Minister was delivering a speech.

Speaking during an address to the diaspora community a few hours later, Minister Mzembi said he was shocked to see the group who held out placards written: ‘Who poisoned the elephants?’, ‘Who is destroying the forests?’ and ‘Who is stealing the diamonds?’

They cannot be true Zimbabweans, and if they are, their brains are certainly remote controlled by aliens, Minister Mzembi hinted.

” When I looked out to see who was out there, there were (just) five people (standing) who were clearly choreographed to hold posters and placards, placards of all sorts,” said Mzembi.

“You can use your (own) placard network, social platforms your Facebook work to highlight your country’s plight …” said Mzembi.

Efforts such as the Vigil’s represented by a few individuals are not Zimbabwean at heart and are futile, hinted Mzembi.

But in a statement the leading campaigner of the Vigil protest, Fungai Mabhunu appeared to dismiss the Mzembi’s statements although not denying that they were just 5 people outside Chatham House.

“The particular kind of protest we were making was not a violent one, we were only dishing out leaflets to people as they enter,” said Mabhunu.

When asked what the Vigil’s position is on sanctions, Mabhunu said that sanctions against Zimbabwe should remain in place.

For the past 11 years, western countries have imposed what they termed smart sanctions on Zimbabwe intended to affect only Robert Mugabe and a few other members of the ruling elite. But many of the sanctions actually do affect ordinary people and more than a decade later, local Zimbabweans cannot perform basic international business activities such as operating a Paypal account, and sending money via US companies such as Western Union from within Zimbabwe. In the same vein, small businesses wishing to advertise on big companies such as the US based social platform Facebook, are struggling since they have blocked Zimbabwe demographic data which are vital for e-commerce operations.

  2. @Sekuru Tiva who told you that the demonstators will be representing thousands. They only represent their families and their stomachs.
After all if they support sanctions against our beautiful country,Zimbabwe, they better stop representing us we don’t need our enemies to represent us.

  4. So Walter are you saying their questions didn’t deserve answers, they do.We leave in the diaspora we may not know what’s happening and wasn’t it this an opportunity to clarify things.Of course in your rotten party you are used to huge frog marched crowds, hakuna mipedzanhamo kuno where you dangle your not so taste carrot on knob carries and dirt fists. One person can stage a demo representing thousands.Surely there is very little to expect from people like you whose travelling has been and is still subject to approval, when you land in foreign lands the development there disorient you, busy kufunga kuto dai ndadzoka ndanovhairira Chinotimba kuti ndabveyo Bhiriteni, you are a disgrace to us Makaranga, unenge wakauya namai.

  5. Zim Vigil is of no use whatsoever. There are better methods to those who are against ZANU. Those who support the vigil have nothing to offer and deep down they are failures. It’s a waste of time and space.
